5 Best Bike Shops in Indianapolis for New Bikes, Tune-Ups & Accessories

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.
  • Technical Expertise: We evaluated each shop’s ability to handle everything from basic tube changes to complex hydraulic brake bleeds. This ensures that the mechanics can actually solve your problem rather than just selling you a new part.
  • Customer Atmosphere: We prioritized shops that maintain a "no-judgment" zone for beginners and families. A great shop should feel welcoming, whether you are buying a $5,000 racing rig or a $10 kickstand.
  • Service Turnaround: We looked at how quickly a shop can get you back on the road during the peak spring and summer seasons. Shops that offer immediate "stand time" for assessments scored higher for convenience.
  • Inventory Diversity: We assessed the range of bikes available, from cargo and e-bikes to high-end road machines. A top-tier shop should cater to all cycling disciplines and budgets found in the city.

If you’ve been around Indy lately, you’ve probably noticed way more bikes. Thanks to the expanding Cultural Trail and new bike lanes, cycling is quickly becoming one of the things to do in, with people trading four wheels for two.

This boom means local bike shops are busier than ever, pushing them to step up their game.

To find out who’s actually doing it best, I visited shops across the city. I looked beyond the gear, checking out customer service, repair quality, overall vibes, and fair pricing.

Whether you’re a weekend cruiser or a daily commuter, this guide highlights the shops you can genuinely rely on for solid mechanic work and straight-up advice.

How much does a Bike Shop cost in Indianapolis

Local bike shop labor rates typically range from $40 to over $250 depending on the complexity of the service required.

Service TypeEstimated Cost

1. Bicycle Garage Indy

Address: 1411 Roosevelt Ave., Suite B

Hours:

  • Tuesday – Friday: 10 AM – 6 PM
  • Saturday: 10 AM – 4 PM

Bicycle Garage Indy’s North Mass location on Roosevelt Avenue is a total dream for urban riders.

As a major hub for commuter and utility cycling, they specialize in functional bikes, stocking everything from reliable Cultural Trail commuters to heavy-duty cargo setups for groceries.

Carrying massive brands like Trek and Specialized gives them a huge inventory advantage over smaller boutiques.

When I visited, I loved the industrial-chic design and was pleasantly surprised by the sheer amount of parking. I even chatted with a mechanic who mentioned their 90-day service warranty, which is a massive plus for commuters riding in all weather.

There are a couple of minor drawbacks, though. Their labor rates lean toward the premium side, and you might hit a two-week wait for a tune-up during the busy July heat.

Still, if you’re gearing up for your commute or looking for new things to do on two wheels, it’s a fantastic spot.

Pros

  • Massive selection of Specialized and Trek brands
  • Modern trail-adjacent facility in NOMA area
  • Comprehensive 90-day service warranty
  • Certified technical fit and e-bike expertise

Cons

  • Premium service pricing for maintenance labor
  • Potential for long lead times in peak season
  • Inventory heavily focused on proprietary brands

Customer Reviews

The service department here is top notch
The service department here is top notch. They performed a warranty repair for me and kept me updated on issues through the whole replacement. I have had tires installed here in the past. The mechanics were quick, and helped me select a set when the ones I wanted were out of stock. BGI is very supportive of the Indy bicycling community, so that is an added bonus on to of their great mechanics and service.

I am always happing stepping into that store
Liam tuned up and replaced a few parts on my 13 year old bike. It rides like a dream now! I can’t believe how smooth and silent it is. The customer service from Liam and Nathan was wonderful. Nathan also helped my children find new helmets. He was great at making sure they got properly. Both Liam and Nathan were very friendly and professional. I love the downtown BGI. I am always happing stepping into that store.

Great experience at Bicycle Garage Indy
Great experience at Bicycle Garage Indy. Toby was fantastic to work with—he really listened as I explained my old cycling habits and made thoughtful, spot-on recommendations without any pressure. When Toby was out, Bernie stepped right in and was an absolute wealth of knowledge. The whole team made me feel confident and well taken care of. Highly recommend this shop for anyone looking for knowledgeable, customer-focused service.

Great experience all around!
Great bikes. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. BGI is so easy to work with. I live an hour away, so I was able to buy my bike over the phone during their tent sale. They held it over the weekend until I could drive down to pick it up. I test rode it, got all my questions answered, and I was on my way. Great experience all around!

3. Indy Cycle Specialist

Contact: +1 (317) 356-4585 / [email protected]
Hours:

  • Monday – Friday 11 AM to 7 PM
  • Saturday 11 AM to 5 PM

Indy Cycle Specialist is exactly the kind of friendly, independent neighborhood bike shop you hope to find.

The owner, Scott, is a master mechanic who brings incredible expertise to the table. You’ll usually spot him in the back building wheels or dialing in suspension systems. They even back their custom hand-built wheels with a rare lifetime truing guarantee!

But what I love most is the relaxed, welcoming vibe, which is a great break from those intimidating, high-end boutiques. I once brought in a well-worn mountain bike, and they gave it the same level of care as the premium race bikes on display.

Whether you’re dropping off a premium race bike or a well-loved mountain bike, they treat it with the exact same care. Plus, their suspension overhauls only take about seven to ten days, which is much faster than most larger chains.

Just take note that the showroom is pretty small, and they’re closed on Sundays. If you are looking for bike-related things to do, definitely drop by during the weekdays.

Pros

  • Lifetime trueing guarantee on custom wheels
  • Fast turnaround for Fox and Rock Shox service
  • Versatile inventory for BMX and mountain biking
  • Unpretentious and un-franchised community atmosphere

Cons

  • Limited operating schedule with Sunday closures
  • Their compact showroom can feel crowded during peaks
  • Occasional communication lapses on status

Customer Reviews

They’re patient, transparent, helpful, and pleasant!
Their staff has done an incredible job helping me find exactly what I need every time I’ve been in-store. They’re patient, transparent, helpful, and pleasant! Inventory is expansive and high quality. Photo included of my latest gets from ICS for my partner’s bike: rear view mirror for safety and bell pepper bell 😊

Fantastic store with plenty of bike styles
Hometown bicycle heros! Fantastic store with plenty of bike styles. Go see Clay. He’s a true professional and he really took care of us. He took his time and search a couple of times for the right back rim for my son’s bike. The store is in Scenic historic irvington, and is full of friendly Hoosier bicycle enthusiast. I’ll be back. Don’t forget to go check out their Schwinn  Sting Ray collection.

4. The Bike Line

the-bike-line

Website: http://www.thebikeline.com/
Address: 6520 Cornell Ave
Contact: +1 (317) 253-2611 / [email protected]
Hours:

  • Monday – Friday 10 AM – 6 PM
  • Saturday 9 AM – 5 PM

If you’re checking out things to do in Broad Ripple, visiting The Bike Line is worth a stop, especially if you’re a serious cyclist. The shop has a polished, boutique vibe and stocks popular Trek models alongside premium heritage brands like Pinarello and Bianchi.

But what I really like about them is their “Double Guarantee,” offering a best-price match and a full year of free adjustments.

If you buy a road bike, you also get a complimentary precision fitting, which riders say makes a huge difference in overall comfort.  Plus, they let you take a generous one-hour test ride on actual roads instead of just circling a parking lot.

The only catch is that the highly performance-focused atmosphere can feel a bit intense for beginners. Their selection definitely leans more toward serious riders rather than casual cruisers.

Pros

  • Best price guarantee plus 1-year free adjustments
  • Elite brand specialization including Pinarello and ENVE
  • Complimentary basic floor fitting with purchase
  • Generous 1-hour extended test ride policy

Cons

  • Staff can sometimes come across as elitist
  • Inconsistent communication regarding repair status
  • Floor stock biased toward high-end performance

Customer Reviews

Professional knowledge with approachable attitude
Professional knowledge with approachable attitude. I like bike shops and stop in when I travel. Given the knowledge and helpful attitude I engaged one of the owners in a discussion related to an upcoming video on my YouTube channel. Time well spent. Good line of enthusiast-level products from respected brands at competitive prices. Really a nice shop.

Very good experience

Very good experience. Went in with an unknown problem. I explained what the bike was doing, they examined the bike,  and took it for a test ride. They had diagnosed the problem possible with the chain. Although they were willing too do the work, they suggested it may be a self fix and save some money on a DIY. Well they were right. It was a chain issue that I was able to fix in about 10 minutes. Thanks Bike Line for your help and the no cost diagnosis.

5. Bicycle Hospital

bicycle-hospital

Website: https://www.thebicyclehospital.com/
Address: 3702 Dr Martin Luther King Jr St
Contact: +1 (317) 926-1641 / [email protected]
Hours: Monday, Wednesday, Friday & Saturday 10 AM – 5 PM

Walking into Bicycle Hospital feels like stepping directly into a piece of Indianapolis history. They’ve been at the same spot since 1953, and the owner is a local legend who brings decades of hands-on expertise to every repair.

It’s a refreshingly old-school experience where you get a face-to-face consultation. They’ll often put your bike right on the stand and give you a free estimate on the spot.

Beyond standard tune-ups, the shop is a haven for unique finds like adult trikes, recumbents, and beautiful vintage restorations.

But there are some things to consider, though. Because they prioritize traditional service, they aren’t big on being online, and their hours can occasionally shift. You’ll definitely want to call ahead or just drop by for updates.

While the communication is low-tech, the honest pricing and high-quality craftsmanship make it completely worth the trip. It’s easily one of the most dependable spots in the city for riders who value heritage and real mechanical skill.

Pros

  • Immediate no-appointment service and assessments
  • Leader in recumbents and specialized adult trikes
  • Diverse inventory for every budget and age
  • Enduring old-school heritage and reliability

Cons

  • Variable repair turnaround times compared to franchises
  • Inconsistent and non-traditional operating hours
