5 Best Deck Builders in Indianapolis for Affordable and Custom Decks

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Design Capabilities: We looked for builders who use modern 3D rendering software. It is crucial to visualize how the new structure will integrate with your existing home architecture before a single board is cut.

Material Expertise: We prioritized contractors certified by major manufacturers like Trex or TimberTech. This ensures they understand the specific installation requirements for warranty compliance and long-term durability.

Project Management: We valued companies that handle the boring stuff like permits and inspections. You want a team that manages the entire bureaucratic process so you do not have to worry about code violations.

Warranty and Support: We checked for strong labor warranties that go beyond the standard material guarantees. A builder who stands behind their workmanship for several years offers peace of mind against shifting or settling issues.

Summer evenings in Indianapolis feel even better when you have a comfortable outdoor space to enjoy. Many homeowners love hosting barbecues in Broad Ripple or relaxing with family in Carmel, and a well-built deck often becomes the center of those moments.

However, finding a reliable contractor isn’t always easy. Some homeowners struggle with builders who miss deadlines or deliver inconsistent workmanship.

Luckily, Indianapolis has some of the best deck builders in the Midwest. With these options, you know your build is in the right hands.

To help simplify your search, I researched the local market and looked for contractors known for dependable service and solid craftsmanship. Read on for the options most trusted by Indianapolis homeowners!

1. Archadeck of Northern Indianapolis

Website: https://www.archadeck.com/north-indy/

Address: 8126 Castleton Rd, Suite 2203

Contacts: +1 317-967-8992

Hours: Monday- Friday: 8 AM–5 PM

Archadeck of Northern Indianapolis provides full-service design and construction for outdoor living spaces such as decks, patios, and sunrooms.

It’s worth noting that they operate under a national franchise system. With this, you’re confident that they follow established building standards while still adjusting their approach for Indiana’s climate.

One benefit homeowners appreciate is the dual warranty, which covers both the structure and the quality of the workmanship. This extra layer of protection is not always offered by smaller contractors.

Archadeck also uses a 3D design process that allows clients to see how their new deck or sunroom will connect with their home before construction begins. Plus, it’s a huge convenience that they manage the permits and city inspections needed for the project.

However, this level of planning and oversight can increase the overall cost, and consultations may take longer to schedule during the busy spring season.

Pros

  • Detailed 3D digital renderings for visualization
  • Dual-warranty covers structure and workmanship
  • Handles all permits and municipal inspections
  • Specializes in diverse outdoor living solutions

Cons

  • Higher costs due to premium full-service model
  • Lead times can be long during peak seasons
  • Franchise quoting process lacks some transparency

We are very satisfied with their work

Great experience working with Ryan, Whitney (PM), and the rest of the Archadeck team. The project came in right at budget and schedule. We are very satisfied with their work and really excited to use our fireplace and grill area!

Archadeck of Northern Indianapolis did a beautiful job

Archadeck of Northern Indianapolis did a beautiful job building our screened porch.  Their knowledge, communication, logistics, and team effort were commendable.  The entire crew (Daniel, Martin, Eddy, Carlos, Eric, Cole, and Whitney) worked together very well.  I highly recommend this company!

Creating a backyard that truly stands out often requires more than basic deck construction. Some homeowners want an outdoor space that feels polished, cohesive, and designed with long-term performance in mind.

That is where specialized builders make a noticeable difference. One company known for this level of craftsmanship is Platinum Deck and Patio LLC, often recognized for delivering outdoor spaces that look straight out of a design magazine.

They hold certifications as a Trex Platinum Pro and a Belgard authorized installer, which allows them to combine composite decking with stone patios in a seamless design.

I also like how they consider the local weather. Their crew digs patio bases about 8 to 10 inches deep, which is deeper than the typical standard and helps prevent paver shifting after harsh winters.

Keep in mind that their focus stays on outdoor living projects, and premium materials can raise the initial project cost.

Pros

  • Advanced 3D rendering for project visualization
  • Deep excavation bases prevent patio shifting
  • Integrates decks with kitchens and lighting
  • Solid 3-year labor warranty included

Cons

  • No general home improvement services
  • Premium materials; higher initial costs
  • Gets booked quickly

Exceeded our expectations!

Love our new patio! Our experience with Platinum was 5 Stars beginning with Ryan’s help designing, communicating process, the high quality craftsmanship and very hard working crew, Dino,  to final inspection. Involved us throughout to be sure to meet our expectations and kept us informed, timely and professional. Exceeded our expectations!

Whole experience was fantastic.

Whole experience was fantastic.  Everybody working there from Josh, to Kyle, to Noah and his team were great.  Cost was very reasonable.  No surprises.  Planning and attention to detail was very thorough.  Can’t recommend them enough.  We love our new deck!

Hours: Monday-Friday: 9 AM–5 PM

Many homeowners want their outdoor space to feel carefully designed instead of looking like a standard add-on. Achieving that look often requires builders who take time to match the deck or porch with the character of the home.

BackYard Livin focuses on custom carpentry and thoughtful planning, helping create a seamless appearance.

They specialize in custom decks, screened porches, and Eze Breeze rooms. These rooms use mesh panels and adjustable windows to allow fresh air while keeping insects out.

I like how the owner works directly with clients during the planning stage to make sure every custom detail is included in the final design.

Additionally, they use a mix of pressure-treated wood and composite materials to suit different budgets. However, because the builds are customized, projects may take a little longer to complete.

Pros

  • Specializes in screened porches and seasonal rooms
  • Personalized consultation with lead designer
  • Uses high-performance materials for longevity
  • Known for tidy work sites and good communication

Cons

  • No broad landscaping services
  • Custom construction leads to longer project timelines
  • Limited availability during peak remodeling seasons

We couldn’t be happier

Craig and Debbie are great to work with!  Craig is an engineering genius and together we designed an amazing deck!  We were so fortunate to have Nick as our primary builder….he is detail-oriented, creative, personable and definitely a perfectionist!  We couldn’t be happier and highly recommend Backyard Living!!

I have had so many compliments from neighbors

I had a Trex deck and a screen porch built by BackYard Living.  I had several other estimates and this was the clear choice.  I have had so many compliments from neighbors. I had to wait a while for the project to begin since I called late in the season, but it was definitely worth the wait. I was referred by a co-worker and I will also refer others to Ron.

4. Decks By Design

Hours: Monday-Friday: Open by appointment

Many homeowners become frustrated when the person who designs their deck isn’t involved once construction begins. After all, it’s common to work with a salesperson during the planning stage and then see an unfamiliar crew show up for the build.

The good thing is that some contractors avoid that disconnect by keeping the same person involved throughout the entire project. That’s exactly how things work with Decks By Design.

Owner Jim Heavey personally manages both the design and the construction, which means the vision discussed during planning carries directly into the build.

I once looked at a multi-level composite deck he completed in Noblesville, and the framing immediately stood out for its strength and precision. The structure felt very stable underfoot because he often builds beyond basic code requirements.

However, since Jim completes the work himself, he only accepts a small number of projects each season.

Pros

  • Owner personally builds every single project
  • Specializes in intricate custom carpentry
  • Superior framing exceeds standard building codes
  • Highly personalized lifestyle-based design

Cons

  • Limited project capacity leads to waitlists
  • Higher quotes due to boutique craftsmanship
  • Strictly focused on deck construction only

Good pricing and great quality

We had a great experience with Bruce, Brandon, and the rest of the team at Decks By Design! They were able to start fast and did a great job of demoing our old deck and installing a full Trex composite deck. Good pricing and great quality, and they were able to finish the job quickly. We are loving our new deck this summer, would highly recommend!

Brandon and his crew did a great job for us

Brandon and his crew did a great job for us with an old deck removal, and a new deck installation last November.   The deck is beautiful – even when it’s covered with 12″ of snow, like now!  🙂 We HIGHLY recommend!!

5. Prodeck Indianapolis Group LLC

Address: 6349 N College Ave, Suite 313

Contacts: +1 317-250-4943 / [email protected]

Hours:

  • Monday, Wednesday – Friday: 7 AM–9 PM
  • Saturday: 9 AM–8 PM
  • Sunday: 7 AM–8 PM

A company known for working well under tight timelines is Prodeck Indianapolis Group LLC. After all, many deck projects come with a clear deadline, and homeowners often want their new outdoor space finished before hosting.

From what I’ve seen, this team balances efficiency with quality.

For instance, their team specializes in composite decking and regularly completes complex installations faster than many traditional builders. They also simplify the process by managing the entire project from start to finish.

Architectural drawings, city permits, and site cleanup are all handled internally, which allows homeowners to avoid dealing with multiple vendors. This organized approach makes projects run more smoothly.

The trade-off is that their full-service model often costs more than hiring a simple carpentry crew, and their calendar can fill quickly as the outdoor building season begins.

Pros

  • Handles everything from design to permits
  • Specializes in premium low-maintenance materials
  • Versatile options, including pergolas and fire pits
  • Dedicated crew ensures clean job sites

Cons

  • Higher investment than basic wood projects
  • Peak season schedules fill up months ahead
  • Does not offer unrelated home renovation services

He kept us updated throughout the whole process

We called Oscar on a Sunday morning and he met us later that afternoon to talk about building a new deck. We agreed on a price that was well within our budget and he got the deck built faster than expected. He kept us updated throughout the whole process. We will definitely hire Oscar and his crew for future projects.

Great workmanship, amazing end product

Great workmanship, amazing end product, but most importantly, Oscar takes so much pride in his work and his word. We encountered a small problem and he grinded through it to ensure our deck was perfect! I highly recommend Oscar and his crew for any job you have.
