5 Best Nutritionists in Indianapolis for Sustainable Health & Balanced Nutrition

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Insurance Navigation: We looked for clinics that proactively handle billing codes to maximize your insurance benefits and minimize personal costs.

Clinical Integration: We prioritized services that connect nutritional advice with medical data to ensure plans are safe for those with health conditions.

Personalized Habit-Building: We evaluated each provider's ability to create realistic, manageable steps that fit your lifestyle rather than handing out rigid, generic meal plans.

Accessibility: We checked for flexible scheduling options and telehealth availability to ensure you can actually stick to the program.

Living in Indianapolis means enjoying a vibrant food scene in its best restaurants, but it is not always kind to your waistline.

At the same time, managing a chronic condition like diabetes demands medical accuracy, while increasing your energy often requires steady lifestyle changes.

For this reason, a generic meal plan from the internet rarely delivers lasting results, as it fails to account for your unique body and daily routine.

To address this, I explored the local health community to identify professionals who emphasize metabolic health and sustainable habits rather than relying on basic calorie counting.

In doing so, we identified leading experts across the spectrum, including hospital-based teams handling complex cases and boutique wellness coaches focusing on behavioral change.

How much does a Nutritionist cost in Indianapolis

Budgeting for nutritional care in Indy is often more affordable than people expect. A standard session with a registered dietitian typically falls between $76 and $113.

If you are booking your very first appointment to establish a care plan, that rate might jump to around $150 or more.

However, you don’t always have to pay the full sticker price out of pocket, since many local insurance plans classify these visits as preventive care. As a result, you may only owe a small copay of $20 to $40, or sometimes nothing at all, depending on your specific coverage.

1. Cardinal Elements Weight Loss & Wellness

Website: https://cardinalelements.com/
Address: 102 Granby Drive, Suite 106, Cumberland
Contact: [email protected] / +1 317-410-9140
Hours: Monday – Friday: 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM

Cardinal Elements really stands out because they’ve built an insurance-optimized model that makes medical weight loss feel accessible instead of like a luxury.

By working with an Advanced Practice Nurse who codes visits as medical wellness, they’re often able to help patients with major carriers like Anthem or United Healthcare pay little to nothing out-of-pocket.

That said, this isn’t a place for casual advice. It’s a high-accountability medical program.

You’ll follow a structured 5-Step clinical plan that tracks your metabolism along with your food intake, which is exactly why many patients choose it for the added medical oversight and clear structure.

However, the program does require real commitment, especially with weekly check-ins during the first six weeks.

While that level of intensity is what drives strong results, it can feel overwhelming if you have a hectic schedule. And because the focus is strictly on real food rather than quick fixes, progress tends to be steadier and slower than what you’d see with fad diets.

Pros

  • Zero out-of-pocket costs for many
  • Led by Board Certified Advanced Practice Nurse
  • Specialized metabolic hacking tools included
  • Flexible private studio or telehealth options

Cons

  • Weekly check-ins can be demanding
  • No Medicare or Medicaid acceptance
  • Slower results than “quick fix” diets
  • High level of personal accountability required

Address: 600 East Carmel Drive, Suite 265, Carmel
Contact: +1 317-443-6811
Hours: Monday – Friday: 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM

Nutrition and Wellness Solutions combines strong clinical expertise with practical, hands-on culinary coaching, which makes the experience feel both professional and approachable.

Sarah Mohrman, the in-house registered dietitian, goes beyond charts and teaches practical grocery store skills. She also simplifies complex diagnoses like heart disease into manageable, enjoyable lifestyle changes.

When I tried their pantry makeover during a trial month, I was surprised by how much the simple swaps they recommended helped. Just changing my usual cooking oils noticeably boosted my energy without feeling restrictive.

It proves that small, practical shifts often stick better than massive overhauls.

On the flip side, since this is a boutique private practice, you might find administrative responses slower than at a big hospital. It is also not the place for rapid weight loss, as they focus heavily on long-term metabolic health and sustainable habits.

Pros

  • Led by a Registered Dietitian with a diabetes focus
  • Practical grocery tours and pantry makeovers
  • Highly personalized for cultural preferences
  • Specialized in heart and gut health

Cons

  • Slower administrative response times
  • Not designed for rapid weight loss
  • Insurance coverage varies by specific plan
  • Limited administrative staff availability

Money well spent!
Heather has helped me to think a lot more about what I put into my body. My changes have been gradual, and healthy. When something isn’t working, she is quick to pivot and strategize so that I can be my best self. Can you have your cake and eat it, too? That’s a great question. What I do know is that Heather Fink’s practice “takes the cake”. Money well spent!

Makes you want to be the best version of yourself
Heather connects with anyone she is working with and provides a comfortable atmosphere. I have personally gained healthy insights to my own health and would recommend her professional skills to my clients family and friends.  She is incredible and makes you want to be the best version of yourself. If you want to make positive changes for yourself or the people you are surrounded by, definitely see Heather. She is second to none.

3. Community Health Network

Address: 7330 Shadeland Station Way # 150
Contact: +1 317-621-2727 / +1 800-777-7775
Hours: Monday – Friday: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Community Health Network has a big advantage because its clinical nutrition services are fully integrated into a larger medical system. So if you’re recovering from surgery or managing a complex condition, that kind of coordination really matters.

The dietitians can see your full medical history and lab results in real time, which helps make sure your meal plan works alongside your medications and treatment plan, not against them.

They also cover a wide range of specialties, from bariatric support to pediatric nutrition, which makes it a convenient option for families who want everything in one place.

The downside is the bureaucracy inherent in this large system. You may face more paperwork and longer wait times for referrals compared to a private clinic.

Plus, the high volume of patients can sometimes make the advice feel a bit more standardized rather than boutique and personal.

Pros

  • Dietitians embedded in the medical team
  • Real-time collaboration with specialists
  • Diverse specialties, including pediatrics
  • Strong insurance integration

Cons

  • More administrative paperwork is required
  • Longer wait times for referrals
  • Scheduling tied to medical office hours
  • Experience can feel less “boutique”

Customer Review

The staff are very attentive & caring
I was a recent patient in the Behavioral health Pavilion for a week. During my stay the care & attention from the staff nurses & other staff encountered was very attentive & caring from all. The Drs. were a bit more to be desired to say the least. They administered necessary care as attending staff advised & listened minimally to the patient as asked by the drs but only spent maybe 10mins a day each day of their stay & it was never the same one twice.

4. Indiana University Health

Website:iuhealth.org
Address: 995 S. Clarizz Blvd., Bloomington
Contact: +1 812-353-3060
Hours: Monday – Friday: 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Indiana University Health at Clarizz Boulevar delivers academically driven care alongside accessible specialty services. Thanks to its connection with the IU School of Medicine, the care you receive is grounded in the latest clinical research.

On top of that, the unified electronic health record system keeps your primary care and nutrition information connected, so you do not have to repeat your medical history at every appointment.

Their patient portal also makes scheduling and messaging simple and convenient.

Unfortunately, the academic setting here can have its downsides. You may see residents or students during your visits, which can sometimes affect the consistency of care.

Take note as well that since it is a high-volume location, booking a non-urgent consultation may take longer than you would prefer.

Pros

  • Backed by the latest academic research
  • Unified Electronic Health Records
  • Streamlined specialist referrals
  • User-friendly digital patient portal

Cons

  • High patient volume causes delays
  • Care consistency varies with residents
  • Complex phone systems and hold times
  • Interaction with medical students possible

5. Franciscan Health

franciscan-health-logo

Website:franciscanhealth.org
Address: 1710 Lafayette Rd., Crawfordsville
Contact: +1 765-362-2800
Hours: Available 24 hours

Franciscan Health takes a different approach by combining medical nutrition therapy with faith-based, holistic support. They recognize that food issues are often emotional or spiritual, not just physical.

Because of that, their whole-person philosophy can feel especially supportive if you are managing chronic conditions like kidney failure or cancer.

The dietitians here focus on delivering evidence-based care while still respecting your personal values.

They also offer specialized programs such as Diabetes Self-Management Education,, which can make a huge difference for someone who has just been diagnosed.

But there are a few things to consider. Some specialized services are only available at certain campuses, so you may need to travel depending on where you live.

Plus, insurance coverage for these nutrition services usually requires a qualifying medical diagnosis, which means it may not be the best option if you are simply looking for general wellness support.

Pros

  • “Whole-person” faith-based approach
  • Specialized diabetes education programs
  • Integrated care with medical teams
  • Strong pediatric nutrition support

Cons

  • Scheduling limited by specialist location
  • Insurance requires specific diagnosis
  • Travel required for some services
  • More administrative steps for intake

I always feel in great care with them – they are very caring, professional, and extremely knowledgeable. In the numerous times I’ve needed X-rays, Rachelle, Jerri, Stacy, Cheryl, Taylor, and Shelby have done an amazing job. Thank you!

Staff was incredibly helpful and just genuinely nice

My mom was in a severe car wreck on her way home from Wisconsin.  Staff was incredibly helpful and just genuinely nice.  They took care of her and kept her company while I drove 3 hours to pick her up.  Thank you so much.  Can’t say how much I appreciate it.
