1. Sake Maru

Website: https://sakemaruindy.com/

Address: 5320 East 82nd Street

Contact: (317)-516-5113, [email protected]

Hours: Mon-Thur: 11:00 AM – 10:00 PM, Fri-Sat: 11:00 AM – 11:00 PM, Sun: 12:00 PM – 9:30 PM

Sake Maru stands out by offering masterfully cut fish with the optimal fish-to-rice ratio in a truly welcoming space. They source incredible seafood, resulting in some of the best nigiri I have ever tasted.

The chefs clearly take pride in their authentic and beautiful presentations.

As someone who meticulously weighs ingredients by the gram at home, I immediately noticed and appreciated their strict portion control on the sushi rice. This careful balance lets the seafood’s fresh flavor take center stage.

The interior is wonderfully decorated and clean, making it great for a relaxed meal.

However, the dining room can get quite noisy during peak hours. This lively vibe might slightly detract from a quiet and intimate tasting experience.

Still, the quality of the food makes it entirely worth the visit.

Pros

  • Optimal fish-to-rice ratio
  • Masterfully cut nigiri options
  • Beautiful and authentic plating
  • Clean and inviting interior

Cons

  • Noisy dining environment sometimes
  • Less ideal for quiet intimacy

Found this place randomly and decided to give it a try. It was super good! I didn’t expect the side dishes at all so that’s a big surprise. The presentation of the side dishes and main sushi platter were chef’s kiss. AMAZING SERVICE!! I only deduct 1 point from the food part because we found the tiny to be very slightly fishier than normal, but the other pieces were great. Overall, we would definitely come back to try their other menu items!

Absolutely incredible! Went here for the first time for our anniversary and we were blown away by the service, quality of the food and price. My partner and I both got drinks, 2 bowls of ramen and a sushi roll for $75. Delicious food, will definitely be back!

FortyFive Degrees is a sleek and energetic sushi lounge that perfectly pairs traditional nigiri portioning with a modern atmosphere. It has a very upscale vibe thanks to its bright, open interior.

If you want a lively ambiance for your dinner, this is a fantastic spot.

The menu variety is balanced too. You will find beautifully crafted specialty items right alongside the classic choices.

What I also appreciate here is the staff. They’re always ready to offer specialized recommendations from their diverse menu.

I also love that they serve traditional-sized cuts rather than oversized pieces, which helps you really appreciate each fish.

One drawback is that the sushi texture can sometimes be inconsistent when the restaurant gets exceptionally busy. You might want to visit on a quieter evening to get the best possible culinary experience.

Pros

  • Sleek and energetic lounge vibe
  • Traditional nigiri portion sizes
  • Knowledgeable and attentive staff
  • Upscale and bright interior

Cons

  • Inconsistent texture during rushes
  • Very busy on weekends

The food is absolutely amazing. The service is always fantastic in which we always request Raleigh who always takes great care of us and she is by far our favorite. The manager Anthony is the best. He is always making sure everyone is being taken care of and helped.

Cute. Sushi was beautiful. Mocktails were tasty. We were sat at a 2 top so the space for food and drinks was limited. The service was fast and friendly. Vibe was chill. The other cocktails being served at other tables were gorgeous! Parking… may the odds be ever in your favor… it’s Mass Ave lol

This place delivers high quality Japanese food with a great flavor. Everything we ordered was 5 stars. The service and presentation were incredible. Website: https://www.hasunoindy.com/

Address: 435 Virginia Avenue

Contact: (317) 600-3020, [email protected]

Hours: Mon-Thurs: 11:00am-2:30pm & 4:30pm-9:00pm, Fri: 11:00am-2:30pm & 4:30pm-10:00pm, Sat: 4:00pm-10:00pm, Sun: 4:00pm-8:00pm

Hasuno is an upscale destination that specializes in meticulously crafted pieces and premium sashimi cuts.

The restaurant strictly follows a philosophy of less is more when it comes to rice. This traditional approach allows their seafood to truly take the spotlight.

The menu features an extensive selection of high-grade options, including standout items like fresh scallops and fatty Maduro nigiri.

The staff provides warm and highly personalized service, often remembering the preferences of returning guests. This makes the serene dining room feel even more welcoming.

The good service and high-end ingredients do come with a premium price tag, though. This isn’t really an accessible restaurant for a casual or budget-friendly meal.

It’s a top contender for special occasions, though.

Pros

  • Focus on traditional ingredient proportions
  • Premium high-grade sashimi cuts
  • Highly personalized staff service
  • Serene and tranquil setting

Cons

  • Premium pricing limits accessibility
  • Not ideal for budget dining

The service, ambiance and the food were a complete excellent package❤️

The Shrimp Shumai is a nice appetiser.

For sushi we ordered: cherry blossom, dynamite roll and spicy tuna.

For fancy vibes, we ordered the volcano where the flambé sushi!

A great experience indeed🫶🏻

Food: delicious! I love sushi, though! It didn’t take long either.

Service: top-notch. I never ran out of my drink. They were all polite and friendly. I never felt rushed or like I was a burden.

Atmosphere: romantic. At the bar, there were a few tables that had more of a business vibe.

I can’t wait to return!

The interior beautifully blends raw industrial elements with tranquil greenery. It really feels like a very stylish place to enjoy an upscale meal.

The kitchen focuses on sourcing flavorful seafood for its diverse nigiri, sashimi, and fresh oyster platters. Every specialty dish is carefully crafted from premium ingredients and beautifully presented at the table.

When I visited, I also found the service good. Their well-trained staff consistently provides fast and friendly service.

Just note that the menu leans heavily toward modern fusion and robust specialty rolls rather than an austere, traditional Japanese tasting format. If you want a strict, classic sushi experience, this specific style might not be what you are expecting.

  • Highly efficient and friendly service
  • Beautifully presented specialty dishes

Cons

  • Menu favors modern fusion styles

This is one of the most delicious sushi restaurants we’ve ever been to. Believe me, we’ve been to many of them in different countries and states. The price-quality ratio is beyond praise. The service was also excellent; the staff was polite and the food arrived very quickly. Good luck with your business, guys.

Came in Sunday evening – no wait for walk in. Very beautiful spot and polite waitstaff. Large menu to select from & you can’t beat the reasonable prices. Unique rolls and sashimi. Only complaint is it was very chilly AC when we were there.
