We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Service Range: We looked closely at the variety of Spanish-style small plates, seeking places that offer everything from grilled meats to authentic seafood dishes. A diverse menu ensures your group can share a vibrant mix of traditional appetizers and hearty shareable plates.

Pricing & Packages: We evaluated overall menu pricing to find options that fit both casual happy hour budgets and upscale group dining expectations. Establishments featuring special tasting-style menus or discounted group packages scored higher for providing great value.

Specialist Approach: Highlighting restaurants that utilize authentic Spanish or Latin-inspired cooking techniques was a major priority for this list. We prioritized chef-driven small plate concepts that authentically capture the rich, savory profiles of traditional tapas.

Location & Accessibility: We focused on spots located within popular dining districts that offer easy central access for tourists and locals alike. Convenient parking options were also considered to ensure your evening out starts without unnecessary stress.

Staff Credentials: We sought out venues with experienced culinary teams specializing specifically in complex Spanish or Latin cuisine. High-quality service and knowledgeable hospitality were essential, as the staff plays a huge role in guiding your small plate journey.

1. Delicia

delicia

Website: https://www.deliciaindy.com/

Address: 5215 N College Ave

Contact: 317-925-0677

Hours: Tuesday – Thursday 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM, Friday – Saturday 4:00 PM – 10:00 PM, Sunday Brunch 9:30 AM – 1:30 PM, Sunday Dinner 5:00 PM – 8:30 PM

Finding a memorable restaurant in Indianapolis often leads me straight to places that take creative liberties with classic recipes.

Delicia brilliantly blends the culinary traditions of the Americas, the Caribbean, and Spain to deliver unique small plates grounded in deep cultural roots.

The lively atmosphere inside makes it a fantastic spot for social gatherers wanting to sip cocktails and pass around slow-braised barbacoa empanadas.

They even have a dedicated 21-and-over Cantina room if you want a slightly quieter, more intimate vibe while digging into their extensive gluten-free options.

My only gripe is that the menu leans heavily into Latin fusion instead of strictly traditional Spanish fare, which might deter culinary purists looking for classic tapas.

Still, the incredible flavors easily make up for the lack of strict authenticity. When I stopped by last month for their Sunday brunch, the savory spices still completely blew me away!

Pros

  • Creative Latin-fusion approach
  • Dedicated adult Cantina room
  • Specialized Sunday brunch offerings
  • Extensive gluten-free options

Cons

  • Lacks traditional Spanish focus
  • Menu leans heavily on fusion

Customer Reviews:

I went to celebrate my birthday and the food was excellent, the presentation of the dishes was superb, the drinks were delicious too, and the bartender’s service was incredible. I’d been to this place before and I’ll definitely be back. 100% recommended.

Love this place!! The food is always amazing and the service is great! The cocktail menu can’t be beat! I ordered my usual empanadas and was not disappointed!! They only knock on the spices. The parking lot is rather small. Otherwise, no notes!

2. Livery

livery

Website: https://www.livery-restaurant.com/

Address: 720 N College Ave

Contact: 317-383-0330

Hours: Monday – Thursday 4:00 PM–10:00 PM, Friday – Saturday 4:00 PM–11:00 PM, Sunday 4:00 PM–9:00 PM

Dining inside a beautifully restored 1890s horse stable instantly sets a rustic-chic mood for the entire evening, and Livery capitalizes on this unique aesthetic.

Elevating the mood further is their delivery of vibrant Latin American flavors through expertly crafted, high-end shared plates.

You’ll definitely want to try their famous mushroom and truffle empanadas, especially while sitting on their popular rooftop seating area under the open night sky.

The bartenders also pour a robust selection of tequilas and mezcals that pair wonderfully with their bold, spicy dishes.

I’ve noticed, however, that some of their offerings can be overly rich or a bit busy in their presentation. If you order too many heavy items, it might occasionally overwhelm the palate.

To keep things balanced, I highly recommend consulting a nutritionist in Indianapolis if you plan on indulging in their decadent shrimp ceviche every weekend!

Otherwise, sharing a few of these intensely flavorful plates with coworkers makes for an unforgettable night out.

Pros

  • Popular rooftop seating area
  • Expertly crafted empanada varieties
  • Robust tequila and mezcal selection
  • Beautifully presented high-end plates

Cons

  • Overly rich flavor profiles
  • Busy culinary presentations

Customer Reviews:

We had a wonderful dining experience  on the upstairs open air seating area.  Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and drink options.  We decided to order from the various appetizer dishes and do a “tapas” style meal with drinks.  Food was delicious and service and ambiance were excellent.  Staff was very friendly and well accommodating.  My only recommendation, outdoor seating could have more lighting at each table after sunset.  Highly recommend!

We ordered albondigas, pan y tomate, ceviche, and pork belly tacos. The food is tapas style, but the portion sizes are larger than I expected.

The albondigas and pan y tomate were amazing. The pork belly was way too dry though. I would definitely come back again!

Those looking for dinner and a show will absolutely fall in love with Almost Famous.

This hotspot along Massachusetts Avenue seamlessly combines a quality small-plate culinary experience with a lively entertainment venue that regularly features live music and performance art.

It even functions brilliantly as a daytime coffee shop before transitioning into a bustling evening lounge. In the latter setup, their authentic Spanish-style flavors like rich jamón and perfectly cooked tortilla de patatas are worth trying.

You can easily spend hours here sipping on their unique seasonal drinks or their incredibly popular espresso martinis. Just be aware that the atmosphere becomes quite loud and crowded during live performances.

If you embrace the energetic environment, the sheer sensory overload of fantastic food and vibrant music is completely thrilling. Sharing cheese boards while a local band plays in the background creates a truly electric weekend vibe!

Pros

  • Regular live music performances
  • Daytime coffee shop transition
  • Robust craft cocktail program
  • Authentic Spanish-style flavors

Cons

  • Loud atmosphere during shows
  • Crowded evening environment

Customer Reviews:

Celebrated my birthday at Almost Famous with my girlfriends and I must say the ambience is so chic and the overall experience was amazing! I tried the biscuits with gravy and let’s just say the portion and taste both had me so happy! There was a smoky touch which made the biscuits so good! Service was prompt and so good, I had a great time!

Highly recommend trying out the brunch in the day or cocktails at night! Such a nice place!

One of our favorite places in Indianapolis!

I absolutely love Spanish food. My grandfather was Spanish, and ever since I can remember, the flavors of jamón, cheese, and tortilla de patatas have been part of my life. It makes us so happy to have found a place in Indianapolis where we can enjoy authentic Spanish style tapas and everything is truly delicious! We also love their coffee and drinks; they’re always amazing.

4. Matador

matador

Website: https://www.matadoronmain.com/

Address: 10 E Main St, Carmel

Contact: 317-669-6580

Hours: Monday – Thursday 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM, Friday – Saturday 4:00 PM – 10:00 PM, Sunday 4:00 PM – 8:30 PM

Escaping the usual downtown bustle brings you to a beautifully curated culinary gem in Carmel.

Matador delivers authentic Spanish traditions and absolutely delicious shareable bites inside a vibrant, elegantly designed corner restaurant.

Their menu shines with classic dishes, allowing you to feast on crispy patatas bravas and savor large pans of saffron-scented paella with your favorite people.

You’ll also find a fantastic outdoor seating area for al fresco dining alongside a dedicated private room for hosting special celebrations here.

I’m just iffy about the main dining room layout, which feels somewhat tucked away and disconnected compared to the highly prominent, bustling bar area.

Despite the slightly awkward floor plan, the food remains the absolute star of the show. I shared a massive pitcher of their house-made sangria here during a friend’s birthday, and the entire night felt like a quick getaway to Madrid!

Pros

  • Classic and authentic Spanish dishes
  • Spacious outdoor seating area
  • Curated house-made sangrias
  • Dedicated private dining room

Cons

  • Main dining room feels disconnected from the restaurant
  • Slightly awkward floor plan

Customer Reviews:

A wonderful place! We’re particularly happy to have found it because every time we searched for Spanish food online, it suggested Mexican food. But apparently there trick was to search ‘tapas’. And what tapas it was! The anchovies and calamari were flawless, as were the patatas bravas and brussels sprouts. The flan desert was also entirely authentic, though a wee bit on the sweet side. Also, surprisingly big portions, and excellent value. Recommended.

This is one of our top 3 favorite restaurants in the Indy area! The tapas were absolutely incredible. We enjoyed the brussel sprouts, chicken skewers, patatas bravas, and mac & cheese. When we go back, we’d have a hard time not getting all of these again, but want to try several other things too! The almond cake was also delicious, and our waiter was very kind. The atmosphere made us feel like we were on vacation somewhere nice! Perfect date night spot.

5. Don Quijote

don-quijote

Website: https://donquijotevalpo.com/

Address: 119 E Lincolnway, Valparaiso

Contact: 219-462-7976

Hours: Monday – Thursday 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM, Friday 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM – 10:00 PM, Saturday 11:00 AM – 10:00 PM

True culinary explorers willingly travel great distances to uncover meals prepared with genuine historical reverence.

Don Quijote holds the impressive distinction of being the original, authentic Spanish restaurant in the state, offering traditional dishes crafted by a Madrid-born chef.

Sinking your teeth into their imported Jamón Ibérico or perfectly tender Galician-style octopus instantly transports your taste buds straight to Europe!

I definitely love their legendary outdoor dining patio that introduced al fresco dining to the area. It’s such a romantic space!

The biggest drawback is obviously the location, as driving out to Valparaiso requires a significant commute for central metro residents. If you don’t mind the journey, the authentic flavors and extensive selection of renowned Rioja wines make it worthwhile.

Additionally, reserving their unique Chef’s Table and Cellar Tour experience creates a highly immersive evening that you’ll remember for years.

Pros

  • Highly authentic Spanish cuisine
  • Unique tasting table experience
  • Legendary outdoor dining patio
  • Extensive Spanish wine selection

Cons

  • Located outside the central metro
  • Requires a significant drive

Customer Reviews:

Don Quijote in Valparaiso is a fantastic spot for authentic Spanish cuisine. The food is flavorful and well-prepared, especially the paella and tapas like croquetas and patatas bravas. Great wine and sangria selection, friendly service, and a warm atmosphere. Highly recommended for a memorable dining experience.

We meet a couple monthly for dinner and tonight was the night. We alternate who chooses. This month it was our turn. Even though we’ve never been we chose Don Quijote. I had read several reviews saying the place was great and the food was awesome. It was. We went over the top too. Cafe Capuccino to start, Jamon Serrano appetizer, tapas combo platter dinner, the red fish special, flan for dessert with coffee. The other couple was equally pleased and will be back, as well as us.
