Choosing a psychotherapist in Indianapolis can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re already coping with anxiety, depression, or relationship challenges.
Therapy is a deeply personal experience, so finding a professional who truly fits your needs is vital. The right support helps you process past trauma or navigate relationship hurdles, helping you build your overall emotional well-being.
To make that process easier, we’ve done the research for you and curated a list of highly regarded services in the Indy area, highlighting practices that offer specialized care and clear, supportive paths forward.
How much does psychotherapy cost in Indianapolis?
When you’re looking into therapy, the cost is often a major question. In Indianapolis, if you’re paying for sessions without using insurance, commonly referred to as self-pay, you can generally expect to pay between $100 and $200 per session. For many private practices, rates often fall between $120 and $150, and in some cases, they may be higher. The final amount you pay depends on a few things: the therapist’s specialized training and credentials, where their office is located, and whether they accept your specific health insurance plan. For example, some specialized trauma treatments might be on the higher end, while a therapist-in-training might offer a reduced rate.
1. Indy Therapy and Counseling

Website: https://www.indytc.com/
Address: 7550 S Meridian St Suite A, Indianapolis
Contact: +1 317-992-1919
Schedule: Mon – Sun: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Indy Therapy and Counseling is unique because they offer a way to fast-track your healing.
Instead of going to weekly appointments for months, you can do a ‘deep dive’ over just one or two days through EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) intensives.
EMDR is widely recognized for its effectiveness in processing difficult memories, and the intensive format is especially appealing for busy individuals seeking a clear breakthrough.
This option is also ideal for people who are ready to address trauma head-on and want meaningful progress in a shorter timeframe.
Beyond trauma work, the practice supports individuals, couples, and families, offering services such as grief counseling, premarital therapy, and substance abuse treatment.
With two convenient office locations, one in South Indianapolis near Greenwood and another in the northern area near Fishers, the practice is accessible across much of the metro area.
Do note that their phone support is limited to weekday hours, and you’d have to wait for business hours.

My counselor is wonderful. Ms. Brandi is an excellent listener. She is kind and compassionate. She doesn’t judge you and you can just talk to her. She offers practical advice that is actionable. She has helped me through grief, depression and bouts of anxiety. I am grateful I found her and this company. I’d give more stars if I could.

I have known Jennifer, owner of The Brave Life Therapy, for about ten years professionally and personally. She truly is a No B.S. therapist (and person!) and works unbelievably hard for her clients, staff, and practice. I have not hesitated to refer clients to her, especially with her professional expertise. Knowing her, this high quality therapy easily carries over to her expectations for staff as well. If you are on the fence, definitely reach out!

3. LifeStance Therapists & Psychiatrists Indianapolis

Website: https://lifestance.com/location/indianapolis-in-8470-allison-pointe-blvd/
Address: 8470 Allison Pointe Blvd #130, Indianapolis
Contact: +1 463-403-1476
Schedule: Mon – Fri: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
The best part about LifeStance is that they handle everything in-house. Because their therapists and doctors work together, it’s much easier to coordinate your care.
It’s a great choice if you think you might need medication along with talk therapy, as it simplifies coordination and keeps your care aligned between providers.
They also stand out for their broad insurance acceptance, covering major plans like Medicare, Aetna, and Anthem BCBS. This accessibility makes therapy much less of a financial barrier for many in Indy.
It’s great that they serve all age ranges and also offer flexible in-person or virtual appointments.
They also provide a massive list of services, including specialty treatments and in-depth assessments like Neuropsychological Testing, which is not always available in other clinics.
Something worth considering before deciding on them is their limited operating hours. They are only open 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM on weekdays and are completely closed on the weekends.
So, if you’re looking for evening or Saturday appointments, this might not be the right fit for your schedule.

Nurse Practitioner Amy Horn is amazing! She was lovely to speak with and really made me feel like I wasn’t alone in everything I had going on. She is very personable and funny, and I found her extremely knowledgeable and easy to talk to. I have put off being seen for too long, and I am so glad to have been referred here.

I have really enjoyed speaking with Ashley. While it was just the first time, she was very attentive and responsive, and I felt very comfortable. Sometimes you just have to “let things out”. I have looked some appointments for the future..

4. Brooke-Randolph, LMHC

Website: https://brooke-randolph.com/
Address: 447 E 38th St, Indianapolis
Contact: +1 317-455-5642
Schedule: Mon – Fri: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Brooke-Randolph, LMHC, stands out because Brooke, the founder, brings a high level of expertise to the table. On top of being a therapist, she is a published author and a consultant who trains others in Brainspotting.
Her practice is highly specialized, offering in-depth specialization in the adoption constellation (adoptees, adoptive parents, birth parents, etc.), alongside developmental trauma and relationships.
This niche focus is perfect if you or your family are navigating the complex dynamics of adoption. She genuinely integrates her professional knowledge with personal experience, which is a powerful combination for building trust.
I especially appreciate the wealth of pre-recorded webinars and training she offers, making her educational resources widely available to both therapists and the public. The workbooks she has authored for children are also fantastic tools.
She also actively engages as a keynote speaker, but her training schedule for speaking engagements is booked out years in advance for 2026 and 2027. This is something you may have to consider if you want to book her for a group soon, but it also reflects the high demand for her specialized expertise.
Customer Reviews
My fiance and I chose Brooke as our premarital counselor and we are so happy that we did. Brooke does a great job of helping couples navigate through tough subjects and had great ways to help us see each issue through the other person’s point of view. We have a much stronger and more understanding relationship because of our sessions with Brooke!
- Ashley Etzkorn | Google Review
Brooke is an exceptional therapist who is extremely knowledgeable about adoption issues, attachment, addictions, and trauma. She has a heart of gold, and I would recommend her to anyone who is seeking a warm, nurturing, and highly attuned therapist.

5. Thriveworks Counseling & Child Therapy Indianapolis

Website: https://thriveworks.com/indianapolis-therapy/
Address: 429 N Pennsylvania St Suite 111, Indianapolis
Contact: +1 463-218-6599
Schedule: Mon – Sun: 8:00 AM – 9:30 PM
If you have a hard time taking off work for appointments, Thriveworks is a great choice. They are open late and on weekends, and they focus on availability, meaning you likely won’t be stuck on a waiting list for weeks.
This is incredibly helpful if you have a demanding work schedule and can’t take time off during the typical 9-to-5 workday.
Their office also includes a specialized child therapy environment, a designated TherapyLand™ location, which is a fun and empowering space designed specifically for kids using play therapy tools like sandboxes and blocks.
They are another excellent choice for accessibility because they boast extensive insurance acceptance, working with most major plans, which could mean a co-pay as low as $0–$50 per session for many clients.
The fact that they have no recurring membership fees is a nice bonus.
However, while the service is generally focused on quick access, the real-time availability for immediate in-person appointments with a specific provider can sometimes be limited.
You have to be prepared to explore their online therapy options as well if these can serve more convenience.
