Archery has a strong presence in Indianapolis, or rather in Indiana. We think it’s safe to say that this is one of the best things to do when you’re in Indy—it’s one of the oldest forms of hunting, so what’s not to love?
But it’s not something you casually practice in your backyard. And when you want to sharpen your hunting skills in real life, archery ranges are exactly where you need to be.
So here, my team and I are sharing our go-to archery ranges in Indianapolis, whether you’re looking for an indoor or outdoor spot, for beginners and pros. Grab your bow and arrow and improve your skills, and maybe you can surpass Hawkeye, at last!
Outdoor Archery Range
Koteewi Archery

Best For: Beginners and intermediate archers; all ages
Pricing: $
There aren’t a lot of outdoor archery ranges in Indianapolis, but one that’s close is Koteewi Archery, a 40-minute drive from downtown and 5 minutes from Strawtown. This one’s a popular spot for Indy residents, as it isn’t expensive and has a good target area.
The outdoor archery range is ideal for beginners, even those who are just starting out without equipment. It ranges from 60 to 120 minutes, which already includes a bow and five arrows.
Plus, the range has all sorts of targets. There’s the typical multicolored bullseye and a couple of small and large 3D targets, like a rabbit and a bear.
Private lessons are also available for archers who want to hone their skills, as you’ll be taught by a certified instructor (from USA Archery or S3DA). After the lesson, you’ll have time to practice what you’ve learned and see if you can aim like Katniss Everdeen!
Pro Tip:
If you have your own bow and arrows, bring them to get discounted rates. It’s way cheaper!

The 30-yard indoor range is located upstairs and can accommodate several people at once (bring your friends!), all while providing a quiet setting for practice. It’s fairly cheap if you have a bow and arrow, but you can rent on-site and share it with a friend.
This full-service archery spot sells equipment, offers lessons taught by a USA Level 2 certified instructor, and hosts tournaments with prize money. Basically, it has everything an archer needs!
Pro Tip:
The archery range gets busy on weekends and evenings. Call the shop first before coming in to know if they have a slot.

What’s one way to join an archery class that won’t cost a fortune? By taking advantage of free programs by Indy Parks & Recreation, of course! The city department offers various archery programs for beginners, and some are even totally free!
Since the city provides introductory classes, these programs are ideal for beginners—and yes, for all ages. These are usually hosted in indoor spaces in various parks in Indianapolis for safe target practice.
We suggest registering as soon as you find an archery program that works around your schedule. These have limited slots, include either a single session or a couple, and aren’t available all the time.
Pro Tip:
Visit the Program & Scholarships section on the website to see the available archery classes.

Hours: Class-dependent schedule
Best For: Beginner archers and adolescents who want to learn the basics

The Outdoor Youth Exploration Academy (OYEA) is for serious archers who want to learn the sport. It’s for ages 10 and up who have a passion for archery, or if they simply want to explore it as an extracurricular activity.
It’s all about the basics of archery, including how to properly hold a bow and aim an arrow. It’s a perfect introduction to archery for young ones, but more for individuals who are serious about the sport, since it isn’t going to be cheap.
At OYEA, students will take one-hour classes every week for six weeks. It’s a small class with up to 10 students per session, ensuring that the instructor can focus on each student.
Pro Tip:
Before booking a class, take the kid to a quick target practice run to see if archery is something they would like to commit to. It would be a waste of money if their hearts are not in it, since the classes will cost a pretty penny.

They’re located 20 minutes from East Warren, just east of Indianapolis. And we must say that getting out of the city is worth it because the 20-yard indoor range is one of the cleanest we’ve been to.
If you’re a beginner or an experienced archer, the staff here can help with all your bow needs. They carry old and new models, and can offer assistance when you need to order parts for hunting season.
Pro Tip:
Don’t wait close to the start of hunting season before ordering parts or tuning up your bow. The shop gets busy during this time, and some special order items may not come in time.

The Club House Archery is a short drive from downtown, approximately one and a half hours, but believe us when we say that you won’t regret going here. It’s perfect for all skill levels, given the two indoor ranges that can accommodate novice and pro archers.
The 20-yard range is ideal for casual practice, when you just want to fine-tune your aiming skills. There are a total of seven lanes, perfect for families and groups.
But the real action begins at the 3D range, which is 45 yards long. It comes with all sorts of features and targets, strategically placed to mimic a natural hunting environment.
Archers will appreciate the large selection of bows, arrows, and accessories. Expect a variety to suit every need and skill level.
Pro Tip:
If you’re bringing the kids, start with the 20-yard range for a simpler archery experience. The 3D range may be a little overwhelming for newbies.

It’s nothing too wild, but it feels more modern. The 10-lane archery range is bright and clean, with monitors that zoom in on each target, so you can see exactly how close your aim is to the bullseye.
Beginners won’t have trouble here, as they’ll receive advice and assistance from master-certified bow technicians. Plus, this location is handicap accessible.
They offer way more than target practice, making this the perfect spot for all skill levels. They’re open for beginner and advanced lessons, as well as host leagues for youths and adults.

Bass and Bucks Inc. is an honorable mention, considering it’s in Wabash and almost two hours away from Indianapolis! Sure, it’s far away, but this range facility is one of the best we’ve been to because it’s in a massive outdoor space.
The outdoor 3D range is dead on for long-distance targets, while the indoor range is youth and kid-friendly, but still ideal for distance shooting. And if you want a two-in-one shot practice, there’s a gun range.
Pro Tip:
Ask the shop first if the archery range is open, since it’s closed for special events. You don’t want to drive off from Indianapolis and end up not getting in.
