Ultimately, making sure your household is safe means various specialized tasks. Similar to arranging gutter fixes ahead of a storm, consistent maintenance of chimneys is essential for avoiding obscured hazards like obstructions or inadequate ventilation.
Creosote buildup can quickly turn a relaxing evening into a dangerous situation, so keeping your chimney clean is non-negotiable for fire safety!
You need a trusted professional to handle the dirty work, so I reviewed local experts to help you find the best chimney sweep in Indianapolis.

As for their chimney sweep service, it’s comprehensive. These include professional cleaning to remove creosote buildup, improve airflow, and reduce fire risks, along with inspections and basic maintenance to keep fireplaces operating safely.
They even maintain an educational blog to help you understand proper fireplace care. Furthermore, the transparent pricing resources they provide make budgeting for annual cleanings incredibly simple and stress-free.
Just note that their chimney sweeping and inspection services are typically scheduled in advance and can be seasonal in demand. This may mean limited availability during peak cold-weather months when most homeowners are requesting service.
They are the absolute best. I needed heat fast. They delivered and fast. Everyone else told me it would be 2 weeks. They got the job done right and gave a significant military discount. The GM came out to do the job so we had heat since their techs were booked out. I would highly recommend them to anyone who needs a chimney sweep and an appliance bag put in their chimney for their gas furniture.

I called for an inspection and sweep of my chimney and I’m very pleased with how it went. Josh was professional, explained in detail what he would be doing, as well as answering questions that I had. I’m very happy with the service that I received and will continue to use them in the future.

We had such a great experience with 317 Clean Sweep. Solomon showed up and in typical homeschool fashion, we gobbled up his chimney knowledge. I highly recommend this company. They have had excellent communication, fair prices and even have a yearly inspection membership to boot. Don’t look any farther. Choose 317 Clean Sweep — forget the others.

Ivan came to clean my chimney about a month ago. I’m just now writing this review bc I didn’t have a Gmail acct established at the time. He was the finest chimney sweep I ever had come to my house in 29 years!! His knowledge was unsurpassed, and he really delved into the history of the house and what plans did we have concerning the fireplace moving forward. I so appreciated his assessment and recommendations. He was one of a kind and I hope I’ll get to see him again when I call next year!

With expertise in restoring older chimneys, they blend preventative care with strategic fixes to optimize airflow and function. Clients also appreciate their accessible customer service, which features 24/7 phone support for emergencies like storm leaks or ventilation failures.
Renowned for meticulous brickwork, they are a trusted name for both aesthetic restoration and functional upkeep. To better accommodate the community, they have expanded their reach with an additional service location.
However, because their focus is strictly on masonry and chimney systems, they might not suit those searching for a general contractor for diverse home renovation needs.
I had my chimney rebuilt. The gentlemen doing my job was Storm and Logan. They arrived 15 min early every day. They were knowledgeable and experienced. They were very polite. I was so happy with their work!! I will definitely call Smalling back if I have any more problems.

We hired Smalling to help our failing chimney and replace the prior gas insert back to wood burning in our fixer upper. While our chimney was beyond repair, Smalling made it easy to decide next steps and showed compassion and understanding as it was considerable cost to redo (we received other quotes that were in the same ballpark sadly). They were great to work with, all employees were professional, and delivered a phenomenal outcome! I can’t wait to use our new fireplace once we get cooler.

They’ve also built a strong local reputation over the years by combining retail convenience with dependable repair work. They also offer excellent seasonal discounts that add genuine value for property maintenance planners.
I recently spoke to a close friend who used their services to purchase a new hearth rug and book an annual cleaning simultaneously.
My friend praised their flexible scheduling options because the team accommodated an appointment outside of their normal posted hours.
Do note, however, that they operate on a reduced schedule and close entirely on weekends. Their doors shut at 4 PM on Fridays which makes late visits difficult.
John serviced our gas log set today. He arrived early and quickly/efficiently cleaned the fireplace and bottom portion or the chimney. He also fixed an ignition problem we were having. In addition, he noted several potential issues with our setup and offered suggestions on how best to address them. Overall it was a great visit and will be using Ely Stokes again when we need fireplace work completed in the future.

Great experience with Scott and James at Ely Stokes. They went the extra mile to fit a flue liner in a difficult chimney situation. In addition to doing a great job, they were very polite, timely and communicated well!

5. The Mad Hatter

Website: https://www.madhatterindy.com/
Address: 5288 East 65th Street

The Mad Hatter provides a holistic strategy for residential ventilation, integrating expert chimney sweeping and meticulous inspections with supplementary vent upkeep.
Their evaluation process is extensive, guaranteeing that any structural risks or soot accumulation are spotted and resolved prior to finishing the project.
As for their expertise, they go past standard hearth maintenance to include dryer vent sanitation, which mitigates fire dangers and enhances the efficiency of air circulation in the house.
Additionally, they offer wood stove retail and professional setup, serving as a versatile resource for both heating and airflow systems.
A notable drawback is that their operations are restricted to typical weekday hours, which might be inconvenient for those seeking weekend availability or emergency support.
Mad Hatter replaced cracked mortar spots along the shoulders of our 47-year-old chimney and sealed between the chimney and the siding of our house last summer. I waited to submit this review until after we experienced several bouts of driving rain and high winds. Our fireplace is bone dry. This will be the first winter in three years where we won’t have to tape plastic sheeting across our fireplace to keep out the cold draft. Thank you, Mad Hatter!
- Steve Martin | Google Review
We had The Mad Hatter out today for a chimney sweep and inspection of a few concerns. Informed that the concerns were not that big of an issue and could be addressed in the spring. Also informed that a chimney sweep is not really required now. Charged me for an inspection (less money), opposed to a sweep. Heck yes, I would have these people back and will do so in the spring. Integrity is hard to find and so valuable to me.
