5 Best Greek Restaurants in Indianapolis Where You Can Savor Authentic Flavors

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Flavor Authenticity: We searched for rich, traditional flavors that transport you straight to the Mediterranean coast. Restaurants using family recipes and fresh, high-quality ingredients scored the highest marks.

Menu Variety: A great spot needs to offer more than a basic gyro wrap. We looked for diverse menus featuring robust lamb entrees, fresh seafood, and plenty of vegetarian options.

Value and Pricing: We compared portion sizes against the final bill to ensure you get your money's worth. Spots offering affordable lunch specials or family deals caught our immediate attention.

Dietary Accommodations: Dining out should be easy for everyone in your group. We gave extra points to kitchens that happily modify dishes for gluten-free or vegetarian diets without sacrificing taste.

Vibe and Service: The atmosphere plays a huge role in how much you enjoy your meal. We favored welcoming, energetic environments where the staff treats you like family.

Think about the crispy edges of slow-roasted gyro meat or the fiery sizzle of fresh saganaki. If those sounds make your stomach rumble, then you’re in the right place.

Indianapolis hides some incredible Mediterranean gems within its busy streets. I set out to find the absolute best Greek food in the city to satisfy those intense feta cravings.

We tasted tangy tzatziki and devoured massive pita wraps to find the winners. Grab a napkin and get ready because we’re diving into the best local spots for authentic flavors.

How much does dining at a Greek restaurant cost in Indianapolis?

You can expect to spend anywhere from $5 for a quick gyro lunch to over $30 per person for a full sit-down dinner.

Dining TypeEstimated Cost
Casual / Quick Bites (Gyros, combos)$5 – $13
Mid-Range / Full Service (Entrees, Moussaka)$15 – $25+
Appetizers / Sides (Spanakopita, salads)$5 – $12

Address: 906 S Meridian St.

Contact: (317) 636-0700 | [email protected]

Hours:

  • Tuesday – Friday: 11:00 AM – 9:00 PM
  • Saturday: 3:00 PM – 9:00 PM

The Stergiopoulos family has run the Greek Islands since 1987, making it the longest-operating Mediterranean spot in the city.

When you walk in, you’ll immediately feel a high-energy vibe. This is especially true when the staff lights the signature saganaki cheese right at your table.

I visited last Tuesday for a quick lunch, and the rich, lemon-infused Avgolemono soup totally blew me away. They serve massive portions of authentic dishes like pastitsio, and they even happily adjust meals for gluten-free diets.

You can also enjoy a chilled Greek frappé while you eat.

The only downside is their limited schedule. They stay completely closed to the public on Sundays and Mondays. This means you must plan your cravings carefully, but the fresh flavors make every visit worth the wait.

Pros

  • Fun table-side cheese flaming
  • Decades-old family recipes
  • Great gluten-free adaptations
  • Authentic Greek coffee options

Cons

  • Closed on Sundays and Mondays
  • No lunch service on Saturdays

Oh my goodness! Everything was great: the food, the service, the appetizers, the desserts. It wasn’t my first time there and I have never been disappointed. I cannot say good enough about this place. These people know how to cook great food and service was above and beyond great.

Absolutely fantastic food
Absolutely fantastic food, and the staff are passionate and excited about food and quality as well. This place is heavenly for people who not only love quality food clearly made with culinary expertise, but a welcoming atmosphere to those who feel the same. Greek island restaurant is worth a visit, easily.

I personally ordered the Saganaki and Kreatopita (meat pie), and it’ll be difficult to get anything else next time.

Customer Reviews:

The food was wonderful
We had a truly great experience dining here with our large group of 12 people on a busy Friday night! The food was wonderful, the atmosphere was great, and the unique entertainment was fantastic—they even had a belly dancer come around a couple of times! It was quite the spectacle. Just a heads up on the facilities: They only have one restroom per gender, which could lead to a wait during a busy rush. But overall, a wonderful night of great food and great fun!

5 Stars for Food, Service, and Atmosphere!
5 Stars for Food, Service and Atmosphere!

I stopped in and ordered the Hummus Plate and the Athens Shrimp. Both were equally delicious and the atmosphere was quite nice. Very quiet and quaint during lunch time!

Canal Bistro is located on the Central Canal Towpath, providing diners with a relaxing and unmatched waterfront atmosphere.

While you sit, you can actually watch the chefs grill fresh meats over an open fire right in the middle of the dining room.

I grabbed brunch here last Sunday, and the baklava-stuffed French toast completely changed my morning. The owners blend their Egyptian and Lebanese heritage into the menu, creating a fun twist on standard fare.

They also clearly mark dozens of gluten-friendly dishes, which makes ordering a breeze for everyone.

However, you do need to watch out for extra charges. They charge a separate fee for every additional cup of tzatziki or garlic sauce you request. Even with the extra fees, though, the experience and flavors are truly unique and worth the trip.

Pros

  • Dog-friendly outdoor patio
  • Unique weekend brunch menu
  • Clear gluten-friendly labels

Cons

  • Extra fees for additional sauces
  • Weekend brunch ends early

Customer Reviews:

Service and food were fantastic
Really cozy place on canal. We loved the service and food was fantastic. Many great choices for vegetarian meals. Also, surprisingly the rice was wonderful and unique taste. Our most favorite was cheese fries. It was very delicious.

High-quality food and consistently flavorful
Fantastic option for Mediterranean food in broad ripples. Quaint ambiance. High quality food and consistently flavorful. I love the hummus, schwarma, pita, and the garlic feta fries are INCREDIBLE and crunchy. We got carry out and the food was delicious and traveled really well without impacting the texture. Some carry out food doesn’t hold up, this does.

4. Indy Gyros

indy-gyros

Website: http://indygyros.com/

Address: 6658 West Washington Street

Contact: (317) 340-1093

Hours:

  • Monday – Saturday: 10:30 AM – 10:00 PM
  • Sunday: 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM

Indy Gyros is a huge hit for adventurous eaters because it mixes spicy Indian appetizers with rich Mediterranean staples. One of the best things on the menu is a signature plate featuring gyro meat and feta cheese over crispy fries.

It’s basically a decadent twist on classic poutine. This creative style bridges the gap perfectly if you love Indian restaurants but find yourself craving a traditional pita wrap.

You can even enjoy huge platters of falafel or catfish served over seasoned rice. And be sure to wash your meal down with a sweet, homemade mango lassi.

Just keep in mind that modifications come with an extra cost. Since almost all items have à la carte pricing, side sauces and extra protein will quickly increase your final bill.

Pros

  • Fun Greek-Indian menu fusion
  • Great everyday family meal deals
  • Lots of vegetarian choices
  • Fresh homemade mango lassi

Cons

  • A la carte pricing model
  • Extra fees for side sauces

All the food has been great!
I’ve had this twice now and all the food has been great! The lemon soup is top notch, the hummus has great texture and flavor. I recently had the chicken kabobs, potatoes and Greek salad. The chicken was cooked and seasoned perfectly, the potatoes were great and the salad had great balance. Has become my new favorite lunch spot!

The first time here, food is amazing. The service was excellent, and the atmosphere was super chill. I got the Street Gyro and an appetizer of falafel. Talk about slap ya mama good! OMGOODNESS, this is my new favorite place. My sister got the build-your-own-feast it looked amazing, and she said it was fantastic. Cannot say enough about this place. So good!
