  • Fri, Sat: 11:00 AM – 11:00 PM
  • Sun: 12:00 PM – 9:30 PM

Craving something both comforting and a bit elevated often leads to Sake Maru, a chef-driven spot known for turning simple curry dishes into a more refined dining experience. The focus here is on fresh ingredients and well-executed staples like katsu chicken and vegetable curry.

Their sauces are rich and savory, coating crispy proteins in a way that makes each bite feel hearty and satisfying. The pork katsu curry, in particular, comes in generous bento-style portions that make it a solid, filling meal.

That said, timing can be a bit unpredictable, especially for takeout. Orders during busy evenings may take longer than expected, and dine-in guests often get priority, which can affect pickup wait times.

Even so, the combination of portion size, flavor, and consistency in the core dishes makes it a worthwhile stop when you’re in the mood for comforting Japanese curry.

Pros

  • Authentic katsu and vegetable curry options
  • Broad menu pairs curry with sushi and ramen
  • High-quality local ingredients used
  • Generous portion sizes offer great value

Cons

  • Takeout orders are often deprioritized

Every dish I’ve had has been delicious

This is a place that I like to go occasionally. I really enjoy the atmosphere and selection available. Every dish I’ve had has been delicious, and depending on what you get, it is pretty affordable as well.

The Gyoza and the Kastu Curry are both incredible.

I will say that I would, and will, come back any time.

All of it was delicious and hands down

Perfect meal on a snowy day! We ordered the takoyaki, shoyu ramen, fried chicken curry udon, and a peach black tea. All of it was delicious and hands down the best takoyaki I’ve had in Indianapolis. The only thing I’d change is to get an extra egg for my ramen.

Hours: Mon-Sat 11:00 AM – 8:30 PM, Sun 11:00 AM – 7:40 PM

Sometimes you want a full comfort-food experience with something sweet and refreshing on the side, and Takumi Boba Tea & Ramen fits that niche. It combines Japanese curry, ramen, and a full boba tea menu under one roof.

The variety makes it easy to mix and match between rice bowls, noodles, and drinks depending on your mood.

Their chicken katsu curry is a standout, offering a homey, balanced flavor that avoids being overly salty.

The anime-inspired interior also adds a lively, modern feel that makes the dining experience more fun and relaxed.

That said, there are a couple of things to watch for. Fried toppings like chicken can lose their crispness if they sit too long in broth, and some versions of their curry ramen lean slightly on the sweeter side.

Even so, it remains a convenient spot if you want both a hearty meal and a boba drink in a casual, energetic setting.

Pros

  • Huge variety of curry formats available
  • Extensive boba and fruit tea menu
  • Fun and trendy anime-inspired ambiance
  • Massive portion sizes guarantee a filling meal

Cons

  • Curry ramen broth tastes overly sweet
  • Texture issues on fried chicken toppings

Everything was delicious

My boyfriend and I tested this place out today and hell yes! I got the curry ramen and chicken katsu, and he also got the katsu and miso ramen. We also got karage.

Everything was delicious and the owner is so sweet!! Definitely try it

This is my new favorite spot

Absolutely incredible experience. Probably the funniest, kindest staff I’ve ever interacted  with at any restaurant EVER. Celebrated a birthday today and they went above and beyond to make it unbelievably special. The ramen, udon, and curry (among countless other dishes) were AMAZING. This is my new favorite spot 🙂

3. Ramen Ray

ramen-ray

Website: https://ramenray.com/menu

Address: 5628 E 71st St Indianapolis, IN 46220

Contact: 317-288-7120

Hours: Mon, Wed-Sat | 11:30am–8pm, Sun | 11:30am–3pm

Slurping a rich, emulsified broth rooted in Hokkaido techniques really changes the way you experience ramen, and Ramen Ray focuses on that Sapporo-style approach.

Their chicken curry ramen is built around a deeply flavorful base created through high-heat stir-frying. This results in a soup that feels rich but not greasy, and clings nicely to every bite.

On a recent lunch visit, the relaxed noodle-shop atmosphere and quick kitchen service stood out, making it a solid stop for a fast, satisfying meal. The balance of flavors in the broth is clearly where the kitchen puts most of its attention.

That said, some dishes can feel a bit uneven in portioning, with a higher rice-to-sauce ratio than expected in certain orders.

The pricing also sits slightly higher compared to the amount of meat included, which may leave some diners wishing for a bit more in the bowl.

Even so, it remains a strong choice if you’re mainly there for the depth and quality of the curry ramen broth.

Pros

  • Authentic Sapporo-style preparation methods
  • Deeply flavorful curry ramen broth
  • Fast and friendly table service
  • Cozy and authentic Japanese noodle shop vibe

Cons

  • High rice-to-sauce ratio
  • Higher price point

I’m going to get the curry because Japanese curry is super delicious!

I was really sick last week so I decided to try to eat something that would be safe and this was my first time trying Ramen Ray. I was super happy to find that this is a Japanese owned business and the shoyu ramen was delicious! Super flavorful broth and once I’m no longer sick I’m going to get the curry because Japanese curry is super delicious! I can’t believe I’ve never eaten here before because I love Japanese food!

The food was a nice portion for what you pay and delicious.

I had the pork katsu curry with squid legs appetizer.  The food was a nice portion for what you pay and delicious.  Will definitely be back to try some of their other dishes.  There was a bit of a wait and would recommend calling ahead during dinner times.

 It is absolutely incredible.

Everyone comes here for the sushi.  They have a great Happy Hour deal on sushi, but the hidden gem is the Japanese Beef Curry.  It is absolutely incredible.  I highly recommend it.  They do take reservations.  It’s a good idea to send them a Facebook message to get a reservation.  This place can get really busy, but it is worth the wait.

I tremendously enjoyed a savory and spicy giant bowl of rich red curry ramen

Friendly service, fun music, chill atmosphere, and great food. I tremendously enjoyed a savory and spicy giant bowl of rich red curry ramen with a sweet and cool boba tea to accompany it. My wife loved her eel rice bowl. I’m sure we’ll be back.

The food was great.

Such a quaint little restraunt. The food was great. The service was spot on, and the prices were good. It’s a cute little hole in the wall mom and pop shop that isn’t too crowded, had a great vibe, and has a good menu. I will be returning, for sure.
