The Best Transmission Shops in Indianapolis With Expert Mechanics

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Diagnostic Accuracy: A great mechanic fixes the real problem instead of throwing expensive parts at a symptom. I looked for shops using modern computer scanners and proven road-testing methods.

Specialized Expertise: General mechanics are fine for basic oil changes, but gearboxes require deep technical knowledge. I chose businesses that focus heavily or exclusively on rebuilding and replacing complex drivetrains.

Customer Protection: You want confidence that your repair will actually hold up over the long haul. I prioritized facilities offering strong local or nationwide warranties on their labor and parts.

Value and Convenience: Getting stuck on the side of the road often means unexpected towing fees. I sought out places offering free towing, honest estimates, or solid financing options.

Community Reputation: A shop only survives for decades by treating its neighbors right and keeping prices fair. I highlighted legacy businesses with consistent track records and strong local community ties.

Nobody likes hearing grinding noises or feeling gears slip while driving on I-465. Look, I know that major repairs are scary, especially when the bill starts to climb.

But finding a good transmission shop in Indianapolis doesn’t have to be a stressful experience. I looked into local shops to find the real experts in the city. Here are the most reliable places to get back on the road.

How much does transmission repair cost in Indianapolis?

B and M Transmission Service has been on the South Side since 1948, and it’s a third-generation family business.

The current owner brings over thirty years of experience to the shop floor and is an active member of the Automatic Transmission Builders Association.

His shop focuses exclusively on transmissions in the mid-fifties. Their team can handle everything from modern electronic diagnostics to complex 4×4 transfer cases.

They even service commercial fleets, which is great for local business owners who need fast maintenance.

Just keep in mind that they’re closed on weekends. This can make dropping off your vehicle tough if you work a standard schedule.

Pros

  • Extensive drivetrain service range

  • 30 years of direct owner oversight
  • Dedicated commercial fleet maintenance

Cons

  • Closed entirely on weekends

I think they are the best in Indianapolis
I thought they were very fair priced, I used to help run a business, we’ve always taken our vehicles to them for transmission problems. I won’t go anywhere else. Honest hard working people, and in my experiences we’ve always been treated great there. I think they are the best in Indianapolis. B & M transmission is the only place I will go. Fair price nice people.

I was very impressed
A few months ago B&M replaced my transmission for me. They were professional, and finished the job before the quoted time. Prices are reasonable. And they have a warranty longer than most. I was very impressed and they certainly exceeded my expectations.

Address: 8141 Craig St

Contact: (317) 537-8860

Hours: Monday – Friday: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Taking a long road trip feels much safer when you know your car repairs will hold up across state lines. This AAMCO location really stands out because it offers a nationwide warranty honored at over 600 centers across the country.

They also use a special multi-step check and road tests to make sure you only pay for the work you actually need.

And beyond just fixing gears, they provide full bumper-to-bumper care. This means you can get your brakes replaced or an engine tune-up done at the same time.

They also offer financing and local towing to help stranded drivers.

The main drawback is their strict schedule. They’re closed on Saturdays and Sundays, which can be tough for busy commuters who work during the week.

Pros

  • Comprehensive bumper-to-bumper car care
  • Nationwide warranty coverage options
  • Flexible automotive financing plans
  • Convenient local towing services

Cons

  • No weekend operating hours
  • Limited access for 9-to-5 workers

Great service, good prices, and wonderful people
Had a transmission issue on a GM truck (common problem), but my dealer couldn’t get the parts. Goldsberrys got me right in, got the part, and got the truck fixed up correctly the first time. Great service, good prices, and wonderful people. They are a great partner to have in the care of your vehicle!

Edward’s Transmissions has been a local favorite for over thirty years. This is mainly because they know how to handle complex CVT and hybrid units.

When you bring your car in, they look at the whole picture, including your fuel and exhaust systems. Most customers love how clearly the technicians explain every repair option.

They also make your life easier by offering courtesy rides to work, driving school, or home, and offer rental car deals while your vehicle is in the shop.

However, there are a few things to keep in mind. Their free towing service is only available if you buy their one-hundred-ninety-dollar diagnostic package first.

Plus, their limited Saturday hours can make weekend pickups a bit challenging.

Customer Reviews

They rebuilt the transmission, and it is perfect
Bought a very low mileage 2002 Honda Accord with the 2.3L four-speed transmission that the fluid had been leaking.  Took the car to Kenny’s and they determined the transmission was slipping in all gears.  They rebuilt the transmission and it is perfect.  Excellent work, car was clean and clean under the hood.  About a week turnaround.

I could not recommend them enough
I could not recommend them enough. They were able to get my transmission rebuilt on a tight timeline so I could go work in New York. Not only that, but the next day we noticed they had fixed our broken headlight without saying a word about it or charging us. Being two women, you never know what you’re going to get from a mechanic shop. At Kenny’s we got honesty, transparency, and super fair pricing.
