Combining traditional Japanese dishes with a Western flair, Izakaya Japanese Restaurant operates under a unique Yoshoku concept.
The space functions as a dual hibachi and sushi bar. It offers high-energy entertainment alongside an expansive menu, rather than focusing solely on noodles.
This approach makes it incredibly appealing for groups seeking Japanese restaurants that cater to vastly different cravings under one roof.
You will find a solid lineup of noodle dishes, including comforting seafood broths and savory stir-fried udon. Many of these meals arrive as generous combos complete with miso soup and a crisp side salad.
However, the bustling atmosphere can sometimes lead to kitchen slip-ups. A few diners have encountered frustrating order accuracy issues, like receiving the wrong cut of steak or entrées that felt slightly overcooked.
An awesome experience
Went out of town to try this place out, totally worth it! It wasn’t super busy so our cook only had 2 of us to serve, and the whole time he was so friendly and awesome to talk too. I didn’t get many photos because the food was so good. He seasoned he to perfection and we got extra fried rice and they give BIG portions. It was an awesome experience, and the bar and everything makes the place feel so nice. I really enjoyed it. Highly recommend!

Contact: (317)-576-0556
Hours: Thu-Sat 5:00 PM – 9:30 PM, Sun 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Stepping into Asaka Japanese Restaurant feels like securing a direct culinary ticket to Kumamoto. Emphasizing a truly authentic, traditional dining experience, this spot bypasses modern fusion to deliver classic dishes rooted in generations of regional cooking.
On our last visit, we slurped down deeply flavorful bowls of their tempura udon. The rich, house-made broth was exactly the kind of sensory comfort we were craving after a tiring day at work.
Their menu boasts an impressive array of authentic noodle options, featuring traditional toppings like fish cake and hearty tofu.
Plus, the very approachable price point makes it an incredibly tempting option for regular weeknight dinners.
Because it is such a beloved neighborhood fixture, prepare for potential wait times during busy dinner rushes. The service speed occasionally falters when the dining room is packed, which can be tough when you are extremely hungry.
Authentic and delicious
Authentic and delicious, with a large menu of a diverse variety from cooked fish to sushi to ramen and udon and more! We ordered simple sushi rolls this time given our company, but we’re excited to try the more complex rolls when we return.

The ramen is great, and so is the Udon.
Incredibly fresh sashimi and flavorful green tea. Definitely a great place to come for a night out with your friends, or for a great traditional Japanese restaurant experience. The ramen is great, and so is the Udon. They have an wide variety of drinks, and have incredible Izakaya. Totally deserving of five stars.

They provide a dedicated section for ramen and noodles. This ensures you can easily satisfy a sudden craving for thick, satisfying wheat noodles.
Beyond the bowls of hot soup, diners have access to a vast array of high-quality sushi, donburi, and elegant appetizers.
The space even caters to larger gatherings with customizable event menus and a highly attentive front-of-house staff.
However, securing a table on a whim can be challenging. Because the restaurant is quite popular, reservations are strongly recommended to avoid lengthy waits.
A handful of diners have also reported vague menu explanations from newer servers.
Delicious food, excellent quality.
First time in today. Had Udon soup for lunch. Delicious food, excellent quality. I shouldn’t call it hidden because it’s in castleton, but I have overlooked it way too many times. Definitely worth a try.

AMAZING.
Absolutely incredible experience. Probably the funniest, kindest staff I’ve ever interacted with at any restaurant EVER. Celebrated a birthday today and they went above and beyond to make it unbelievably special. The ramen, udon, and curry (among countless other dishes) were AMAZING. This is my new favorite spot 🙂

This fast-casual spot strips away the usual tableside theater to focus purely on speedy, flavor-packed meals that are perfect for a quick lunch or an easy takeout night.
This location is particularly convenient if you want vibrant Asian flavors without committing to a formal sit-down experience. The straightforward online ordering system also makes grabbing dinner on the way home incredibly simple.
We grabbed their steaming shrimp yaki udon last week, and the satisfyingly chewy noodles hit the exact right spot.
Unfortunately, the execution does not always match the convenient setup. Customers frequently mention frustrating order omissions, like missing sauces or incomplete meals, paired with a noticeable lack of apologies from the busy staff.
The server was very friendly and welcoming.
We were really lucky to find this Halal Japanese restaurant (other than chicken gyoza everything is Halal). The shrimp shumai and miso soup felt unique (as I didn’t try Japanese food earlier). The chicken udon and the hibachi rice dishes were really delicious. I liked the hibachi grilled prawn and beef the most. I also tried the smoked salmon nigiri which was great. As dessert we tried the cheesecake tempura which again was amazing and unique. The server was very friendly and welcoming.

Service was on point
Pretty solid for a quick Japanese lunch or dinner. It’s not fancy, and not the best Japanese I’ve ever had, but they have some great options on the menu at a reasonable price.
The Hibachi is where it’s at. We also tried the Yakasoba and the Udon noodles – both were good, but the portions were on the smallish side.
Service was on point, and parking wasn’t too hard to find on some side streets.

5. Takumi Boba Tea & Ramen

Address: 6066 E 82nd St, Indianapolis, IN 46250

Hours: Mon-Sat 11:00 AM – 8:30 PM, Sun 11:00 AM – 7:40 PM
Combining boba tea with Japanese comfort food makes for a pretty flexible dining setup, and Takumi Boba Tea & Ramen leans into that idea. They pair a full drink menu with hearty noodle and curry dishes.
The kitchen focuses on rich, savory options. They offer curry-based broths, thick noodles, and crispy proteins such as pork katsu, which makes it easy to build a filling meal.
A popular combo is something like chicken katsu curry udon alongside a cold fruit smoothie. It balances the heavier, savory flavors with something light and refreshing.
The menu also stretches beyond mains, with snacks like edamame and takoyaki, so groups can mix and match small plates.
That said, the ordering system can be a bit frustrating. The digital kiosks aren’t always intuitive, and since there’s limited direct staff interaction, quick clarifications about the menu can be hard to get during ordering.
The food was beautiful and delicious!
Lovely atmosphere and kind and welcoming staff! The food was beautiful and delicious! You definitely get your money’s worth I took enough food home for a second meal. I got the pork katsu curry udon it was so delicious and warming

All of it was delicious
Perfect meal on a snowy day! We ordered the takoyaki, shoyu ramen, fried chicken curry udon, and a peach black tea. All of it was delicious and hands down the best takoyaki I’ve had in Indianapolis. The only thing I’d change is to get an extra egg for my ramen.
