We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.
  • Quality of Care & Staffing: We prioritized communities with strong staff-to-resident ratios and licensed nursing oversight to ensure residents receive prompt attention. A compassionate care culture is essential for fostering a safe and supportive environment.
  •
  • Facility Amenities & Atmosphere: A clean, home-like setting greatly enhances the daily experience for seniors transitioning from their lifelong residences. We evaluated the quality of dining options and the variety of social activities available to keep residents engaged.
  •
  • Cost & Transparency: Transparent monthly pricing structures help families plan their finances without unexpected surprises down the road. We also looked for communities that clearly outline what services are included and whether they accept long-term care insurance.
  •
  • Reputation & Reviews: Local reputation and consistent family testimonials provide vital insights into the lived experience at these facilities. High resident satisfaction ratings strongly influenced our final selections for this guide.
  •
  • Location & Accessibility: Proximity to safe neighborhoods and local hospitals provides an added layer of security for aging adults. Communities situated in family-friendly areas make it easier for relatives to visit frequently and stay involved.

Navigating the transition of an aging parent into a supportive community can feel overwhelming. You want a place that feels like home while still providing the right level of care, support, and even counseling when needed.

When my own family began having these conversations, it quickly became clear how emotional and complex the decision can be. There are many factors to weigh, from daily assistance and medical care to counseling services and quality of life

To make the process easier, we put together a guide to finding the best assisted living in Indianapolis. It highlights communities known for compassionate staff, strong support systems, and environments where residents can feel genuinely cared for.

These are places designed to help loved ones stay active, engaged, and supported every day.

Address: 8140 Township Line Road

Contact: (317) 649-8545

Hours: Available 24/7

Planning for the future often means thinking about how your medical needs might change over time. Marquette handles this beautifully with its Life Plan Community model.

This setup provides everything from independent living to skilled nursing, all on a single campus. Having all levels of support in one location gives families peace of mind, as they can avoid future moves.

A friend of mine recently moved her mother here and was very impressed by the on-site aquatic center and the great dining options.

Residents also enjoy full housekeeping services, which make daily life completely maintenance-free.

Just keep in mind that the financial commitment is quite high at the start. The required entrance fee and long-term contract mean this community is not a good fit for people who want a simple month-to-month rental.

However, for those who want permanent stability and care, it is a fantastic option.

Pros

  • Multiple dining venues available
  • On-site aquatic and fitness center
  • Priority access to higher care
  • Comprehensive housekeeping included

Cons

  • Requires an upfront entrance fee
  • Long-term contract mandatory

Customer Reviews:

Marquette is such a special place to call home!
Marquette is such a special place to call home! I had the privilege  of helping seniors move out of their house and into Marquette and saw them welcomed with warm smiles from staff and fellow residents! Their renovations are beautiful and were so thoughtfully planned out for maximum enjoyment of social time with friends and family! I’m so excited for the future growth of this vibrant community and can’t wait to help others make their perfect move!

Marquette has an excellent multi decade reputation
Marquette has an excellent multi decade reputation for a reason. From the gorgeous campus to the full continuum of care, excellent food options, robust calendar of activities, beautiful apartment choices, to a dedicated and tenured staff, it is all quite impressive. Despite all of the wonderful amenities what will really give you a lasting impression when you visit Marquette is the engaging and happy residents. Nothing can compare to residents stopping you in the hallway or one of the many common areas to tell you how much they love living there.

2. Traditions at North Willow

Website: https://www.traditionsatnorthwillow.com/

Address: 1703 W. 86th St

Contact: (463) 800-8231

Hours: Available 24/7

Finding a place that balances independence with medical care can be very difficult. Traditions at North Willow helps by offering personalized care plans for every resident.

This community combines independent living, personal care, and memory support all in one spot. This means you get the exact help you need, such as managing your medications or assisting with daily tasks.

You will also enjoy meals prepared by a chef, which makes dining feel like a special event.

Plus, there’s always something to do with a busy social calendar, and every suite has a 24-hour emergency system for safety.

However, because all care levels share the same building, the atmosphere might not feel as private for those who want a strictly independent lifestyle.

This lack of separation is something to consider if you are looking for a neighborhood that feels purely independent.

Pros

  • Dedicated medication management
  • Chef-prepared daily meals
  • Structured social activity calendar
  • 24-hour emergency response systems

Cons

  • Less separation between care levels
  • Shared building for all residents

What a place!
What a place!  The team at Traditions at North Willow are amazing!  We just visited with the residents for the Halloween celebration and are looking forward to the Thanksgiving celebration.  As a family member of a resident, it is very evident that the Traditions’ team truly cares for their residents.  Many thanks to Nate, Julie, Mary, Sarah, and Shilpa for their care.  You mean so much to our family.

The experience has been exemplary
After extensive due diligence along with the assistance of experts in Elder Care, we recently transitioned a parent into assisted living at Traditions of North Willow. The experience has been exemplary thus far with special acknowledgment for the staff whom work tirelessly to foster an enriching environment for their residents.  Special thanks to the team and especially Nate whom is a great ambassador for it all!

Consistency and good therapy are very important for seniors with memory challenges. American Senior Communities stands out by providing personal daily support and structured brain exercises.

Their Auguste’s Cottage program offers special care for people with dementia or Alzheimer’s. Many families like the short-term respite stays because they give primary caregivers a much-needed break.

The facility also provides great physical and occupational therapy right on the property. They even help with transportation for medical appointments.

However, since this is part of a large corporate network, how they run things is highly standardized. Families who want the flexible feel of a small private facility might find this environment a little rigid.

Still, the expert care makes it a very reliable choice for many.

Pros

  • Specialized dementia programming
  • Short-term respite stays available
  • On-site occupational therapy
  • Coordinated medical transportation

Cons

  • Standardized corporate feel

4. Avalon Senior Living

Hours: Available 24/7

Large retirement campuses can feel overwhelming for older adults who prefer a quiet and tight-knit setting. Avalon Senior Living offers a boutique-style environment that focuses on personal care and memory programming for comfort.

This cozy atmosphere helps staff and residents form deep connections.

When we toured this community, we noticed how calm and welcoming it felt. The care plans are carefully developed by nursing staff to ensure everyone stays safe.

Residents also enjoy a secure outdoor courtyard and an on-site beauty salon.

Because Avalon focuses on being small and intimate, it lacks resort-style amenities found on larger campuses.

However, for those who value personal attention over a huge facility, it is a wonderful and peaceful choice.

Pros

  • Boutique and intimate environment
  • Nursing staff oversees care
  • Secured outdoor memory courtyard
  • On-site salon and barber shop

Cons

  • Lacks large resort-style amenities
  • Smaller overall space

Customer Reviews:

We have peace of mind
I could not be happier that my mom has moved to Avalon. It was a big step and we were nervous for the change, but this has been the best decision. She is surrounded by new friends and great caregivers. We have peace of mind and really enjoy our visits.

5. Hoosier Village Retirement Community

Website: https://www.hoosiervillage.com/

Address: 9891 Purple Plum Lane

Contact: (317) 873-3349

Hours:

  • Monday – Thursday: 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM
  • Friday: 7:30 AM – 6:00 PM
  • Saturday: 10:00 AM – 4:30 PM

Connecting with nature is very good for your health, but many care centers are stuck in busy cities. Hoosier Village offers a refreshing change because it sits on a beautiful 300-acre campus.

This large space gives seniors plenty of room to enjoy nature while still having access to medical care. The community features miles of walking trails and lovely scenery right outside your door.

Residents can choose to live in a duplex or a standard apartment. There is also a wellness center for fitness classes and several different places to eat.

However, the campus’s sheer size can be a challenge. You have to walk much longer distances to get from your home to the main activities.

This might be difficult for people who have trouble moving around.

Still, it is a wonderful place for those who love the outdoors.

Pros

  • Sprawling 300-acre campus
  • Extensive outdoor walking trails
  • Diverse housing configuration options
  • Dedicated on-site wellness center

Cons

  • Long walking distances to amenities
  • Can be challenging for mobility issues

Customer Reviews:

This is a very top quality facility
I do not live here. However, I have been fortunate over the years to experience the joys of many retirement homes and nursing facilities.

First thing I noticed was that it did not smell of urine (this is a positive). Second, the hallways are wide and clean. Third, it is lighted well and bright. Fourth, the rooms in the assisted living are really spacious.

Bottom line – this is a very top quality facility.

Covers every aspect
LaNita has helped tour friends that are interested in Hoosier Village. She is comprehensive in her hospitality and covers every aspect and question a potential resident could have. We moved December 2023 and LOVE LIVING AT HOOSIER VILLAGE. Staff like LaNita are ready and willing to assist residents in all areas of life.
