We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Atmosphere and Vibe: We looked at the overall environment of the shop to see if it feels welcoming. A great space should let you relax the moment you sit in the chair.

Skill and Versatility: We checked if the barbers can handle both classic cuts and trendy modern styles. They must know how to work with different hair textures.

Value for Money: We compared the prices against the quality of the services provided. You should always feel like you’re getting what you paid for.

Customer Convenience: We reviewed their operating hours and booking systems to see how easy it is to secure an appointment. Shops with flexible schedules scored much higher on our list.

1. Witch Hazel

witch-hazel

Website: https://www.witchhazelindy.com/

Address: 601 Fulton St

Contact: 317-525-2221

Hours:

  • Tuesday – Friday: 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM
  • Saturday: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM

Witch Hazel offers a different experience from the typical barbershop. With the relaxed atmosphere, holistic approach, and focus on sustainable products, the spot feels more like a boutique grooming destination than a place to simply get a haircut.

The team takes time to understand exactly what you’re looking for, making each visit feel personalized from the start. That attention to detail extends beyond traditional barbering services.

Along with expert cuts, they offer blowouts, bridal styling, and other services you’d normally expect from a high-end hair salon.

A friend of mine stopped in for a complete style refresh and couldn’t stop talking about how collaborative the process felt. Instead of rushing through the appointment, the stylist spent time discussing different options before making a single cut.

The biggest drawback is availability. Since they’re closed on Sundays and Mondays, booking a convenient weekend appointment can sometimes be a challenge.

You also need to be ready to pay a premium price for a haircut.

Pros

  • Heart of downtown location
  • Uses natural salon products
  • Wide variety of services
  • Highly attentive staff

Cons

  • Closed on Sundays and Mondays
  • Premium rates

Customer Reviews:

Natalie blended my color beautifully

I found myself needing a last minute hair appointment and booked with Natalie on a whim. She did a fabulous job! This was my first visit to the salon, but it definitely won’t be my last. Natalie blended my color beautifully and I couldn’t be happier with the result! She was so attentive and never rushed the process! Highly recommend!

Everyone is very friendly

This was a great experience! I love the vibe of the saloon and everyone is very friendly. The shy puppy was also very brave and gave me a hello sniff in the lobby. My hair stylist Ashlyn is awesome and I’m looking forward to seeing her next! I really love my haircut. Thank you!

2. Black Orchid Barbers

Website: http://www.blackorchidbarbers.com/

Address: 613 N. East St

Contact: 178-295-740

Hours:

  • Monday: 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM
  • Tuesday – Thursday: 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM
  • Friday: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
  • Saturday: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
  • Sunday: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Black Orchid Barbers has built a reputation for combining high-quality grooming services with a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

Rather than leaning into the traditional barbershop stereotype, they’ve created a space where you can feel comfortable regardless of your style or grooming preferences.

I like how their team is skilled in everything from sharp bald fades to intricate hair designs, making them a great choice for both classic and modern looks.

They even offer straight razor shaves and other traditional grooming services for anyone looking to elevate their appointment.

Another major advantage is their 7-day schedule, which makes fitting a haircut into a busy week much easier.

While they’re open on both Saturday and Sunday, you should note that they close pretty early, and that can make last-minute afternoon appointments difficult to secure.

Pros

  • Inclusive and welcoming atmosphere
  • Open seven days a week
  • Specializes in diverse hairstyles
  • Offers classic grooming add-ons

Cons

  • Closes early at 4 PM on weekends

Customer Reviews:

They greet you cordially every time

I really like this barbershop and the barbers who work there. They greet you cordially every time you’re there nice conversation but most of all, one of the best haircuts I’ve ever had by Tanner. Tanner is really good. Listens to the type of haircut you want makes notes that he refers back to every time you visit just couldn’t be any better

He really knows hair and is just an all-around cool person

Joey is seriously the best! He’s super fun, genuine, and always nails my haircut. I have really thick, curly hair, and he not only listens to what I want but also gives great guidance on what’s actually doable with my hair type. Every decision he’s helped me make has turned out great. He really knows hair and is just an all-around cool person. Highly recommend!

Established in 1928, Fountain Square Barber Shop has preserved their vintage character while continuing to serve clients looking for both classic grooming and modern haircuts. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere feels authentic and full of history.

I stopped by for a hot towel shave recently, and the attention to detail was impressive. The straight razor work was precise, and the overall experience felt more like a traditional grooming ritual than a routine appointment.

Another plus is the value, as their pricing remains competitive. Their loyal patrons also love that they close late on weeknights, making it easier to fit a visit into a busy schedule.

Do take note, though, that this barbershop can get extremely busy during peak hours, so walk-in appointments often come with long waits.

Pros

  • Authentic 1928 vintage ambiance
  • Extensive weekday hours
  • Competitive and affordable pricing
  • Traditional hot lather shaves are available

Cons

  • Extremely long wait times during peaks

Customer Reviews:

The barber Jonathon took the time to understand exactly what I wanted

I had an incredible experience at this barber shop; the Atmosphere was very welcoming also chairs are extremely comfortable. The barber Jonathon took the time to understand exactly what I wanted and delivered a flawless cut 100%will be coming back. If you’re looking for a nice barber shop with good people, this is it hands down.

Gave an outstanding vintage cut

I’m not in Indy very often but so appreciate Matt ‘Mac’ in particular. Traffic issues kept me from showing up on time but he graciously and kindly worked me in – and gave an outstanding vintage cut. Love the traditional, historic vibe, the 50s music and awesome building and storefront, but all that is hollow unless the cut is top notch… and it is. Highly recommend.

4. Brick & Mortar Barber Shop

Website: http://brickandmortarusa.com/

Address: 906 Carrollton Ave. Ste 335

Contact: 317-929-1179

Hours:

  • Monday – Friday: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
  • Saturday & Sunday: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Brick & Mortar Barber Shop blends classic barbering with a distinctive vintage atmosphere.

Located in the Bottleworks District, the barbershop is filled with carefully curated antiques and décor, many of which are actually available for purchase.

It creates a unique experience that feels a bit like stepping into a barbershop and an antique store at the same time.

Service-wise, the shop is particularly known for their traditional shaving packages, which include hot towels and pre-shave oil treatments designed to elevate the experience.

They’re also open 7 days a week, making it easy to fit an appointment into your schedule.

However, they operate on a cash-only basis, so you’ll need to come prepared. On top of that, they enforce a firm late-arrival policy, and appointments can be cancelled if you’re more than 10 minutes behind schedule.

Pros

  • Located in the Bottleworks District
  • Unique retail element for decor
  • Comprehensive shaving packages
  • Open seven days a week

Cons

  • Strict cash-only payment policy
  • Charges applied for missed slots

Customer Reviews:

Kelso was more than patient with me

This place does an incredible job! Super friendly, and Kelso was more than patient with me as I fumbled through a description of what I wanted and showed him pictures similar to the style I was hoping to achieve.

Also, it’s very reasonably priced. Keep in mind they are cash only and do not take cards. There was an atm nearby but it might be best to bring cash with you so you can avoid the atm fee.

The pictures are from the day after I got the haircut, and you can definitely tell how good of a job Kelso did!

It’s something I genuinely look forward to

I’ve been going to Brick and Mortar and getting my haircut by Kelso for over 2.5-3 years now. The service is always top-notch – professional, consistent and exactly what I need every week. Getting a fresh cut here has become a part of my weekly routine, and it’s something I genuinely look forward to. Kelso is not only skilled but also takes the time to make sure every detail is right.

Highly recommend to anyone looking for a reliable and high-quality barber experience.

5. 4:59 Barber Lounge

4-59-barber-lounge

Website: https://www.indycm.com/market-directory/jacks-barber-shop/

Address: 3407 E 86th St

Contact: 317-257-4599

Hours:

  • Monday – Friday: 9:00m AM – 7:00 PM
  • Saturday & Sunday: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

4:59 Barber Lounge offers a more elevated grooming experience than the typical barbershop.

Designed with men’s self-care in mind, the lounge combines traditional barbering with spa-style services, creating a space where clients can relax while upgrading their look.

A standard appointment often includes premium touches like hot towel treatments and shampoo washes, while additional services range from scalp treatments to foot grooming and therapeutic massages.

I booked a scalp treatment there recently, and the attention to detail was impressive. The barbers were highly skilled and handled modern styles like precision fades and seamless blending with ease.

Unfortunately, the luxury experience comes with higher prices than most traditional barbershops. Plus, detailed cuts or styling services can push the bill well beyond a standard haircut.

Pros

  • High-end spa experience for men
  • Includes relaxing hot towel treatments
  • Highly skilled with modern high fades
  • Open seven days a week

Cons

  • Services come at a premium price
  • Transformative cuts can cost up to $75

Customer Reviews:

She listened to what I wanted

Ashleigh did a great job cutting my hair. She listened to what I wanted and was very warm, friendly, and professional throughout the whole experience. I’ve been growing my hair out for the first time and she gave me some tips on maintaining it better. Very good experience would come again.

Friendly, skilled, and attentive

I needed a haircut and beard trimming and my routine appointment elsewhere fell through (it’s on me). I went to the 4:59 website and found an appointment with Rachel T. Super happy with that decision! I showed Rachel a few pictures of what I was looking for and she really did a nice job. Friendly, skilled, and attentive. Great experience.
