Finding great chocolate in Indianapolis is a mission I take very seriously. While the city is famous for its racing history, I think its local confectionery scene deserves just as much attention.
I’ve spent plenty of afternoons ducking into boutiques and candy counters to find treats that snap cleanly, melt smoothly, and actually feel worth the splurge.
From silky truffles to crunchy chocolate-covered snacks, there is a lot to love here. This guide points you toward local spots where careful craftsmanship and rich cocoa come together beautifully.

1. DeBrand Fine Chocolates

Address: 8685 River Crossing Blvd.
Contact: (317) 669-0955
Hours: Monday-Thursday, 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM; Friday-Saturday, 10:00 AM – 9:00 PM; Sunday, 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Stepping into DeBrand feels a little like walking into a jewelry store, which is the first clue that this is a more luxurious chocolate experience.
The shop specializes in visually elaborate truffles that look almost too beautiful to eat. That’s why they work especially well when you want something gift-worthy instead of purely casual.
Their presentation is incredibly elegant, which is a big plus for anyone looking for gift delivery services in Indianapolis to impress a loved one. Each piece has a distinct snap and a rich, velvety center that lingers nicely.
I also appreciate the range of classic and more adventurous flavors, because the premium ingredients really come through.
The tradeoff is the price. This is not the place I would choose for a cheap afternoon snack, but when I want a refined box of chocolates that clearly feels special, the extra cost makes sense.
The 8 person chocolate sampler was delicious
We had a great time with our group of 8! We had the 8 person chocolate sampler and it was delicious! We sat in the most perfect booth in the back and the vibes were immaculate! Thank you DeBrand for a perfect afternoon!

A new fall favorite
I did not know they did a theme for Halloween. The treats were so much fun especially the ghost chocolate treats and huge caramel and chocolate dipped apples. Always a warm welcome and great customer service at this great store and I have such a great selection to choose from. A new fall favorite!

2. Sweet Things Chocolates

Website: https://sweetthingschocolates.net
Address: 2288 W. 86th Street
Contact: (317) 222-5934
Hours: Monday-Friday, 10:00 AM – 5:30 PM; Saturday, 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM; Sunday, Closed
Sweet Things Chocolates has the kind of local charm that instantly makes me slow down and look around. This cozy shop leans into small-batch, hand-dipped confections, so the whole experience feels more personal than grabbing a bar off a shelf.
When I stopped in for a custom assortment of dark chocolate clusters, the service stood out just as much as the candy case. The staff was attentive without hovering, and they were genuinely happy to walk me through the more traditional flavors.
Because everything is made in small batches, the chocolate tastes fresh, and the texture remains consistently smooth.
The biggest downside is the schedule. Weekend hours are limited, and Sundays are off the table entirely, so a spontaneous candy run can be hard to time.
Still, when I can make it there, the shop feels authentic in a way that keeps me coming back.
Perfect little chocolate and candy shop
This is a perfect little chocolate and candy shop. it is a perfect place to go if you are making a gift basket or a tray of wonderful treats for an important gift. Lots of seasonal highlights such as Frankenstein chocolate covered pretzels and ghost pretzels and mummy pretzels. They also have bulk jelly bellies jelly beans. Lots of gift ideas for baby showers and other occasions. They even have fun socks. See the pictures in the photo section.

Wide selection of delicious chocolates
Sweet Things Chocolate has a wide selection of delicious chocolates and candies that they make. They have ready made gift baskets available or can make them up for you. There are several other non chocolate gifts. My favorite are their turtles and chocolate caramel apples.

3. Kilwins Ice Cream – Chocolate – Fudge

Website: https://www.kilwins.com/location/stores-near-me-indianapolis-in-46204-0179/
Address: 332 Massachusetts Ave
Contact: (317) 388-5488
Hours: Sunday, 12:00 PM – 10:00 PM; Monday-Saturday, 11:00 AM – 10:00 PM
Kilwins leans hard into nostalgia, and honestly, that is part of the fun. It feels like an old-fashioned parlor. It’s complete with hand-paddled fudge, a packed candy selection, and enough activity to make the whole place buzz.
I like that you can often watch the staff make fresh treats right behind the counter, which gives the visit a little extra energy.
The portions are generous too, which is great for those in the mood for a serious sugar fix instead of a tiny boutique sample.
It’s also a natural stop for families exploring downtown, since there’s enough variety to keep kids and adults equally happy.
The only catch is that the atmosphere can get loud and crowded during peak evening hours. If I want a quiet browse, this would not be my first pick.
But if you’re after lively energy and plenty of choices, it absolutely delivers.

Address: 211 First St SW, Carmel

Hours: Thursday-Sunday, 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Xchocol’Art is the spot I think about when I want something that feels both artistic and deeply thoughtful. It’s the kind of place I would visit after dinner at a fine dining restaurant in Indianapolis to keep the evening feeling a little more special.
Owner Joann Hofer uses classic European techniques to create hand-painted bonbons with complex flavor infusions, so the chocolates look striking before you even take a bite.
I still remember trying one of her lavender-infused pieces and being surprised by how balanced it tasted. It wasn’t overly floral like I was expecting.
The shop’s focus on ethically sourced ingredients also adds something meaningful to the experience.
The only drawback is that small-batch production means favorites can sell out quickly. I recommend not waiting too long in the day if you want the fullest seasonal selection.
Works of art in every bite
every chocolate i’ve tried from here is amazing!! they’re works of art, Joann is so talented and her passion is shown in every hand painted chocolate and perfectly curated ingredients! i’m so glad Joann’s shop is in Carmel 🥰 …

5. Endangered Species Chocolate

Hours: Monday-Thursday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Endangered Species Chocolate brings a sense of purpose to something as simple as buying a chocolate bar. Every purchase supports wildlife charities, so it feels good knowing the treat does a little good beyond satisfying a sweet tooth.
They also use non-GMO (Genetically Modified Organism) ingredients and make plenty of bars with high cacao percentages. This is great for anyone who prefers darker, more intense flavors.
The inclusion of vegan and allergen-friendly bars is another plus, since it makes sharing with different people much easier.
Just note that this is a more specialized experience than a traditional candy counter. You will find pre-packaged bars rather than a fresh truffle case or loose pieces to mix and match.
Even so, when I want to stock up on reliable dark chocolate with a strong ethical angle, this is an easy choice.
My absolute favorite chocolate
Endangered Species Chocolate is my absolute favorite chocolate. I have tried just about every bar and my favorite is the peppermint crunch bar (I believe it is the penguin bar). I love that the company donates a portion of their profits to help endangered species. My husband and I enjoy splitting a bar and ready the facts about the animals on packaging.
