Discovering the 5 Best Matcha Spots in Indianapolis

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Flavor Profile and Quality: We look for a deep, umami-rich flavor that stands out without being overly diluted by milk. A proper preparation process ensures the drink is smooth and free of chalky clumps.

Menu Variety and Customization: Our assessment includes checking if the cafe offers fun, flavor-forward variations alongside the traditional latte. Having multiple milk alternatives and sweetener adjustments is crucial for a personalized cup.

Atmosphere and Experience: The vibe of the cafe dictates whether it is a quick grab-and-go stop or a comfortable place to linger. We value cozy seating and a welcoming staff that elevates the daily caffeine ritual.

Value and Consistency: Paying a premium price means the beverage must deliver the same excellent taste on every visit. We factor in reported wait times and the flavor's reliability across different baristas.

Finding the perfect green tea latte is a serious quest for any caffeine lover.

If you’re hunting for a smooth, earthy cup after exploring local Japanese restaurants or need a vibrant pick-me-up following a heavy meal at one of our favorite Chinese restaurants, the Circle City delivers.

1. Coat Check Coffee

Address: 401 E. Michigan St

Contact: via Instagram

Hours: Monday to Friday: 7 AM–4 PM, Saturday and Sunday 8 AM–5 PM

Tucked inside the historic Athenaeum on Mass Ave, Coat Check Coffee pairs a culturally rich, all-day cafe vibe with a remarkably deep, flavor-forward matcha program.

Their green tea lattes completely skip the overly diluted, milky trap that ruins so many cafe orders, letting those rich, earthy notes truly shine.

I actually spent a rainy Sunday afternoon here sipping their classic oat milk matcha, and the cozy community seating makes it incredibly easy to lose track of time. They clearly apply the same precise craft to their teas as they do to their freshly roasted espresso.

It’s also great that their menu even highlights plenty of vegan options if you want to pair your drink with a plant-based bite.

However, some days the service feels a bit rushed and less welcoming during the morning crush. You might occasionally encounter a batch that leans slightly too heavy on the milk, but the gorgeous venue easily makes up for minor hiccups.

Pros

  • Flavor-forward, undiluted tea profile
  • Historic and comfortable seating venue
  • High-quality ingredients and craft approach
  • Vegan and vegetarian food options

Cons

  • Occasionally rushed service
  • Occasional overly milky drink preparation

The drinks were made quickly and tasted perfect.

The environment was perfect. The drinks were made quickly and tasted perfect. We got a hot matcha latte and an iced dark chocolate latte. The sea salt in the dark chocolate latte made it absolutely perfect. There was plenty of seating and you can also pay to use the printer. Plenty of outlets and many of them have USB ports.

It changed my life.

Tried the matcha latte with ginger today. It changed my life.

+++++++

I was skeptical about this place at first, but after my 14th cortado breve, I have come around on this establishment. Excellent location. Professional baristas. Tasty espresso. Give them your money.

I love how this shop goes far beyond the basics. The halal-certified menu here is incredibly inclusive, making it a welcoming hub for the whole neighborhood to gather.

Expect a creative lineup of specialty matcha drinks, such as strawberry and mango variations, alongside traditional Arabic pastries. Pairing a vibrant, top-tier iced matcha with a piece of warm baklava is an absolute treat for the senses.

Plus, the cozy seating and long hours of operation make it an ideal late-night study spot.

On the downside, the popularity of their specialty drinks can lead to significant delays, and staff communication about order wait times is not always prompt.

Pros

  • Creative flavored specialty options
  • Halal-certified and inclusive menu
  • Meaningful mission-driven brand ethos
  • Welcoming community seating atmosphere

Cons

  • Potential for long wait times during rushes
  • Inconsistent drink quality between baristas

I will definitely be back!

We decided to stop in and this cute little coffee shop DID NOT DISAPPOINT. The food was yummy, the drinks were silky, and the jazz music was relaxing. The barista was so sweet too. We got a brown sugar Chai, strawberry Matcha, Beef and Samosa Empanadas, cream cheese filled croissant, and the pistachio tres leches. I will definitely be back!

Never had anything like it.

Wow. Strawberry matcha was insanely good. Never had anything like it. Should’ve got a large, stuck in traffic and pissed now! Lol. See you soon.

Biscoff is great paired with the honeycomb! Super pricey though in my opinion so it’s only a weekly stop for me! ❤️

Address: 42 Virginia Ave

Contact: 317-377-4812

Hours: Daily, 8 AM–4 PM

chronic coffee & smoothies is known for a highly creative, dessert-style menu, transforming the traditional green tea latte into playful treats like the maple pistachio matcha.

This family-owned, mom-and-pop shop brings a delightfully cozy energy to Virginia Avenue, making every guest feel like a regular.

I recently stopped by to try their fruity pebbles matcha, and the whimsical flavor profile was a massive departure from standard, earthy brews. They offer total customization, too, allowing you to swap in cashew or coconut milk to build your perfect cup.

Overall, this is the ultimate destination for anyone seeking a sweet, colorful beverage alongside their morning routine. The friendly staff genuinely brightens the day the second you walk through the door.

Unfortunately, the fun specialty flavors can sometimes be too subtle, leaving the drink tasting less distinct than the bold menu descriptions suggest.

Pros

  • Highly customizable beverage options
  • Fun and creative dessert-style flavors
  • Welcoming mom-and-pop environment
  • Good variety of milk alternatives

Cons

  • Specialty flavors can be too subtle
  • Flavor intensity misaligns with descriptions

The matcha latte was delicious

Suuuper friendly service. They literally welcome you the second you’re opening the door. And very upbeat.

The team was clearly ready for all the Seifties with the extra decor and themed names and I could tell they were staffing to prepare for more folks coming in too.

The matcha latte was delicious – love the addition of pistachio and maple. So cozy.

The breakfast empanada was freshly prepared and a nice way to start the day.

the best matcha I’ve ever had

The cinnamon roll matcha was the best matcha I’ve ever had! My boyfriend got the peanut butter cocoa and we loved it. The couple who took our order was super sweet and walked us through the menu. And if you go, you need to try the caprese empanada!!!

Address: 10617 East Washington Street

Contact: 317-755-6171

Hours: Sunday to Friday 6 AM–10 PM, Saturday 6:30 AM–10 PM

Bridging the gap between a classic cafe and a trendy boba shop, Vogue Bubble Tea & Coffee Bar offers an extensive, flavor-forward matcha menu that defies tradition.

They specialize in modern fusion concepts here. I love how they churn out wild combinations like ube matcha, horchata matcha, and even banana bread matcha.

The sheer volume of customizable toppings, from classic tapioca pearls to popping boba, gives you total control over the texture and sweetness of your drink.

Plus, the inviting interior space focuses heavily on turning your beverage run into a relaxing, sit-down experience. I also love how their extended evening hours make them highly accessible for late-night cravings.

Just keep in mind that their approach leans heavily toward sweetened, fruit-infused preparations. If you’re a purist hunting for a traditional, bitter, unsweetened ceremonial tea, this sugar-forward style might not hit the mark.

Pros

  • Massive variety of unique flavor blends
  • Endless boba and topping customizations
  • Great late-night operating hours
  • Accessible via online delivery platforms

Cons

  • Heavily sweetened overall flavor profiles
  • Final taste varies widely based on add-ons

5. Tsaocaa Indianapolis

tsaocaa-indianapolis

Website: https://tsaocaain.com/#

Address: 530 Massachusetts Ave, Suite 180

Contact: 317-735-1948

Hours:  Monday 11:30 AM – 10 PM; Wednesday to Thursday 11:30 AM – 10 PM; Friday 11:30 AM–11 PM; Saturday and Sunday 11 AM – 11 PM

Anchored by a profound dedication to pure, natural ingredients, Tsaocaa brings an authentic Asian-inspired specialty tea experience straight to Mass Ave.

Their massive menu features multiple green tea options, allowing you to choose between a classic Uji matcha, a creamy coconut latte, or a refreshing iced slush.

This is essentially a lifestyle space where you can pair a meticulously crafted milk foam drink with snacks like Hong Kong egg waffles or Korean fried chicken.

Also, the fast service and impeccably clean dining room create a comfortable environment for a quick lunch date. The secure, spill-proof packaging is also a major plus for takeout orders!

However, the kitchen sometimes struggles to meet specific dietary requests accurately. For instance, customers occasionally report receiving dairy milk instead of their requested plant-based alternative, which can be frustrating.

Pros

  • Authentic pure tea ingredients used
  • Diverse food and snack pairings
  • Fast and efficient in-store service
  • Secure and spill-proof takeout packaging

Cons

  • Occasional issues with order accuracy
  • Dietary customization requests sometimes missed

did not disappoint!

I got myself a wonderful Matcha Bubble Milk that did not disappoint! My only regret was not getting the large size instead of the medium & not getting one of the tasty looking red bean egg waffles.

I’m very picky when it comes to my boba/matcha/milk teas, decided to go to this place due to its outstanding reviews. Highly recommend!

 The drink options are great

I’m happy to have Tsaocaa downtown! This particular location is different from the one in Castleton. The drink options are great, and so are the food options. I ordered a lime mojito (delish!) and a matcha milk swirl. Both were delicious & not too sweet at 70% sugar level.
