We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Credentials and Training: We looked for practitioners with rigorous clinical backgrounds, such as Certified Professional Midwives and Certified Nurse-Midwives. This ensures a high level of safety for out-of-hospital and clinical births.

Care Philosophy: Our evaluation prioritized practices focusing on holistic and evidence-based care. We sought providers who treat childbirth as a natural physiological event rather than a medical emergency.

Postpartum Support: We examined the extent of aftercare provided to new mothers and newborns. Comprehensive lactation support and extended postpartum monitoring were key indicators of exceptional service.

Accessibility and Inclusivity: We assessed how well these practices serve diverse community needs. Practices advocating for equitable maternal health and those offering virtual consultations scored highly in our review.

Preparing for a new baby is an emotional journey, and finding the right support makes all the difference. Expecting parents seeking personalized guidance and planning out-of-hospital deliveries need a professional who listens and advocates for their specific birth plan.

To help you navigate this important choice, we evaluated local practitioners to find the best midwife services in Indianapolis for your postpartum and delivery needs. These top-rated professionals offer reassuring and evidence-based care to help you welcome your little one with confidence.

And when your little one has arrived, you might need some extra help at home. These top maid agencies can provide the support you need.

Guiding families through equitable and holistic maternal healthcare is the main focus for Sol Midwifery, and they specifically aim to improve outcomes for black and brown birthing families.

Navigating pregnancy requires feeling seen by your care providers. Practitioners here build personal and collaborative relationships with expecting parents throughout the entire journey.

They maintain strict clinical standards, featuring professionals with both Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) and Certified Direct-Entry Midwife (CDEM) credentials. This guarantees rigorous and state-recognized training for safe out-of-hospital deliveries.

For those interested in unmedicated births, they offer robust childbirth education modeled after the Bradley Method.

However, one downside is that the clinic functions as a teaching environment for apprentice midwives. Clients wanting exclusive, one-on-one time with a senior midwife will need to navigate the presence of students during their sensitive prenatal visits.

Pros

  • Strong focus on equitable maternal healthcare
  • Features dual-certified CPM and CDEM practitioners
  • Provides Bradley Method childbirth education classes
  • Offers extensive local breastfeeding advocacy

Cons

  • Less exclusive one-on-one time with senior midwives

This experience was so wonderful for our whole family.

This morning, as a family, we were reminiscing about the birth of our youngest son, who came into the world with the help of Joi and Sol Midwifery. We were talking about how Joi remains one of our favorite people in the world, for her role in the birth of our son. This experience was so wonderful for our whole family, and the entire team at Sol Midwifery is deeply appreciated for their help and care. If you have the chance to have them play a role in the birth of your baby, you should absolutely take the opportunity.

My daughter found them and I am so grateful she did!

Sol Midwifery is amazing!!!! My daughter just had her first child and we were all new to midwifery. My daughter found them and I am so grateful she did! Marisol and Victoria were so wonderful. They all are so knowledgeable and make you feel so loved and cared for. I would recommend these amazing woman to anyone!

Expecting a child brings a flood of emotions, making the choice of delivery environment crucial. Led by Shannon Greika, CPM and CDEM, Divine Birth Midwifery provides personalized and evidence-based home birth care to let families welcome their babies in a calm, highly secure setting.

Practitioners replace rushed clinical appointments with lengthy prenatal visits. These extended sessions allow for thorough education and deep emotional guidance.

They also offer continuous postpartum monitoring that lasts a full six weeks following the birth. This helps track both the newborn’s health and the mother’s physical recovery.

Water birth accommodations are readily available, complete with tub rentals for hydrotherapy during labor.

That said, due to their strict adherence to home birth protocols, clients who unexpectedly develop severe complications late in pregnancy must transfer their care. Those individuals will need to transition to a traditional hospital setting rather than remaining with their original provider.

Pros

  • Personalized and evidence-based home birth care
  • Extended prenatal visits for thorough education
  • Six full weeks of extensive postpartum monitoring
  • Facilitates hydrotherapy and birth tub rentals

Cons

  • High-risk complications require full hospital transfer
  • Cannot accommodate late-term severe medical issues

Recommended to anyone looking for midwife-assisted hospital birth!

I had the privilege of working with Shannon for my home birth back in April of 2025 and had a wonderful experience! Lacey was her student midwife at the time and they worked together as a team. They are both extremely knowledgeable, kind, and gentle hearted. We felt deeply supported and cared for every step of the way. I highly recommend Shannon with Divine Birth Midwifery to anyone looking to have a home birth or midwife-assisted hospital birth!

Highly recommended her for anyone seeking out a professional midwife!

I love Shannon ❤️ she has been by my side for five out of my six homebirths. She cares a lot – she is reliable, trustworthy, empowering & knowledgeable! I’m thankful for her diligence and peaceful presence. I know I’m in great hands when I am with Shannon! I would highly recommend her for anyone seeking out a professional midwife!

3. My Midwife for Life

Address: 735 Shelby St, Suite 104, Indianapolis, IN 46203

Hours: Mon – Thu: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Treating the root causes of chronic gynecological issues is the driving force behind My Midwife for Life, spearheaded by Bethany Monte. As a Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), she uniquely blends midwifery with functional medicine.

My sister recently struggled with recurrent miscarriages, and speaking with a provider who used personalized microbiome analysis instead of just managing surface symptoms completely shifted her perspective.

The clinic actively reverses complex conditions like Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and endometriosis through targeted dietary changes. They also expertly address perinatal mood disorders and postpartum depression.

For busy mothers organizing childcare, the robust virtual visits are highly convenient.

Just keep in mind that the physical clinic closes at 4:00 PM and doesn’t operate on Fridays. This restricted schedule makes attending in-person appointments difficult for women with standard corporate hours.

Pros

  • Blends midwifery with functional medicine
  • Reverses complex conditions like PCOS naturally
  • Dual-certified PMHNP addresses perinatal mood disorders
  • Offers convenient telehealth options and virtual visits

Cons

  • Closes at 4:00 PM on weekdays
  • Unavailable for appointments on Fridays and weekends

Absolutely phenomenal!

Bethany is absolutely phenomenal! She provides such a safe space for women to voice their concerns & she’s never once made me feel like my symptoms are in my head or made up. She is reassuring, she listens, validates, and she does everything in her power to course correct and get you on the right path in your cycle & your overall health. I’ve never had a doctor go through the comprehensive tests like she has & it has finally given me hope that I don’t have to live with this pain forever.

Highly recommended her for anyone seeking out a professional midwife!

Bethany has always been very patient and approaches my questions and healthcare needs with compassion and genuine concern. She is an excellent listener, and brings a holistic approach to my care. I especially appreciate her ability to balance more traditional medical training and experience with appreciation for use of supplements and lifestyle recommendations.

4. Serene Midwifery

Address: 6621 Olvey St, Indianapolis, IN 46236

Hours: Tue & Thu: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Empowering expecting parents to share in the decision-making process is the core philosophy of Serene Midwifery. They provide personalized, out-of-hospital primary care that views childbirth as a natural physiological event.

I recently spoke with a neighbor who used their services, and she appreciated having immediate access to the on-site prenatal chiropractic adjustments housed within the clinic.

The practice also employs a dedicated International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) to teach in-depth breastfeeding classes. This ensures new mothers master the basics before their baby arrives.

Their home birth services extend far beyond the city center, actively accepting patients in surrounding suburbs like Fishers and Carmel.

Families planning unmedicated deliveries can join their intensive childbirth education workshops. However, these full-day workshops require a $250 out-of-pocket registration fee. This additional cost is typically not covered by standard health insurance providers, which may stretch a growing family’s budget.

Pros

  • Views childbirth as a natural physiological event
  • Dedicated IBCLC teaches in-depth breastfeeding classes
  • Provides on-site access to prenatal chiropractic adjustments
  • Travels to patients in surrounding suburban areas

Cons

  • Full-day education workshops cost $250 out-of-pocket
  • Workshop fees are rarely covered by insurance

I had a peaceful, beautiful birth at home.

April truly went above and beyond to support us during a long, slow labor. She was the advocate, expert, and supporter that we needed and gave us the freedom to take the reins when we wanted. Due to a misalignment, labor was slow, but with her expertise, she was able to recommend positioning that worked like magic. At a hospital, I probably would have ended up with a C-section for absolutely no reason. Instead, with her guidance, I had a peaceful, beautiful birth at home. Couldn’t be more thankful to have found a midwife like April!

Never made me feel rushed or like my labor was an inconvenience.

April is very kind and very gentle!! After a not as pleasant midwife experience with my first child, April was a breath of fresh air! She was kind and accommodating, even at 4 am when I called to tell her my labor had started. At the birth she never made me feel rushed or like my labor was an inconvenience. She was encouraging the whole way. I would definitely use her services again 🙂

5. Antonia D. Mayhew, CNM

Blending holistic birthing techniques with the safety net of a medical facility is exactly how Antonia D. Mayhew operates. Functioning as a highly skilled CNM within the Ascension St. Vincent hospital system, Mayhew specifically trains in facilitating natural births within a clinical environment. This gives mothers the freedom to labor without an epidural while remaining highly monitored.

Care extends far beyond pregnancy, offering annual wellness exams and menopause management. Plus, the practice’s integration into a mainstream healthcare network means services are frequently covered by standard commercial health insurance plans.

Mothers dealing with a sudden high-risk situation will have direct access to emergency surgical interventions and top-tier Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) facilities.

Unfortunately, because deliveries occur within a traditional maternity ward, laboring mothers must adhere to the facility’s strict institutional policies regarding guest limits.

Pros

  • Blends unmedicated birthing techniques with hospital safety
  • Provides complete lifespan women’s healthcare and exams
  • Delivers immediate access to emergency interventions and NICU
  • Highly compatible with standard commercial health insurance

Cons

  • Constrained by traditional hospital maternity ward rules

Best midwife and care I could have ever asked for.

Antonia was the best midwife and care I could have ever asked for. I did get to see all the midwives, and can confirm I felt heard and seen at each visit. Antonia ultimately delivered my baby boy, and was as supportive as I needed. I’m done with kids but would have her by my side again!

Proactive and made sure I was closely monitored.

Antonia was there for me when I was at my most vulnerable and scared. I was sent for an emergency induction and her presence was calming. She tried to follow my birth plan as much as possible even with the urgency of the induction. Then, when I had a complication postpartum, she was proactive and made sure I was closely monitored. I’m thankful for her and the midwives in the practice!
