We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Crust and Flavor Profiles. We tasted the dough to ensure the crust offered a satisfying crunch or a perfectly soft chew. Our team also checked the sauce for a bright, rich tomato flavor.

Topping Quality. We examined the freshness of the meats and cheeses used on every pie. High-quality ingredients drastically change the final taste of the food.

Value for Money. We compared the portion sizes against the final bill to measure fairness. You deserve a filling meal that justifies the hard-earned cash you spend.

Atmosphere and Service. We evaluated the dining rooms to see if they felt welcoming and clean. Friendly staff members make a big difference during a busy dinner rush.

1. Futuro

futuro

Website: http://www.futuroindy.com/

Address: 19 Cruse Street

Contact: (317)-360-4725 | [email protected]

Schedule: Wed, Thur 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM; Fri 11:00 AM – 9:00 PM; Sat 2:00 PM – 9:00 PM; Sun 1:00 PM – 7:00 PM

Walking into Futuro hits you right away with the smell of baking dough and melted mozzarella. They specialize in two styles of pizza: thick Detroit-style pies and crisp Chicago Tavern-style crusts.

The Detroit square slice stands out in particular, especially with its caramelized cheese edges that come out rich and slightly crunchy.

Everything is made fresh in-house, including the dough and Italian sausage, which is prepared daily by their kitchen team. They also do a good job catering to different diets, with vegan protein options and gluten-free crusts available.

Because everything is made from scratch, it does take time. You can expect a wait of up to about 45 minutes for a pie.

Prices are also higher than those at typical takeout pizza spots. We think the price is well-justified, though, considering their focus on quality ingredients and a more livable-wage model.

Pros

  • Dual regional style choices
  • High critical market acclaim
  • Ingredients made fresh daily
  • Expansive vegan menu options

Cons

  • Long 45-minute bake times
  • Higher premium price point

Customer Reviews

Excellent place to get Detroit or tavern style pizza and a beer.  They have a lunch special Wednesday – Friday 11-3 (I think) that includes a Detroit style, 2 bradsticks, and drink.  This place is mostly carry out or dine-in, although they told me they do offer delivery through Toast or DoorDash.  Their Detroit style pizza is assembled as such: crust, cheese, sauce, then toppings – which is a little unique and it works.  Highly recommend.

Cane here with high expectations and boy were they surpassed. Always wanted to try a detroit deep dish pizza. The combinations they had were incredible. Definitely worth the drive out here and left extremely satisfied. Check them out if you’re in town.

2. Bazbeaux

bazbeaux

Website: http://www.bazbeaux.com/

Address: 329 Massachusetts Ave

Contact: 317-636-7662

Schedule: Sun, Mon, Tue, Wed, Thur 11:00 am – 9:00 pm; Fri, Sat 11:00 am – 10:00 pm

Winning the title of the city’s top pie for 21 years straight proves Bazbeaux truly knows their legendary craft. They started the exotic topping game long before it became a popular trend, happily loading pies with sweet lump crab or house-made chorizo.

Every single slice features a signature blend of provolone and mozzarella for a distinctly gooey, unforgettable melt.

They also cleverly cater to a variety of complex diets by offering tasty plant-based cheeses and a hearty wheat crust.

You’ll usually find their locations in busy, popular areas surrounded by other restaurants and cultural spots, which makes it an easy stop during a night out or weekend walk

That said, there are a couple of things to keep in mind. The kitchen environment is very flour-heavy, so it may not be suitable for diners with severe celiac disease.

Their delivery service also shuts off during mid-afternoon hours, which can make late lunch orders inconvenient.

Pros

  • Massive exotic topping variety
  • Dedicated dietary menu choices
  • Prime accessible city locations
  • Decades of proven awards

Cons

  • Severe gluten cross-contamination risk
  • Restricted afternoon delivery windows

Customer Reviews

We stopped into Bazbeaux on Mass Ave on a busy evening, and it was fantastic from start to finish. Even with the crowd, every pizza and garlic bread we ordered came out perfectly prepared—hot, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. The service was outstanding as well; the staff stayed friendly, attentive, and efficient throughout the rush. A wonderful experience all around and an easy recommendation for anyone craving great pizza in Indy.

We love ❤️ this pizza 🍕 😋. We moved away and we have tried several other pizza restaurants. Non   can compare to Bazbeaux pizza. So when we are in the neighborhood. We’ll definitely stop and get our favorite colossal. So delicious 😋.

3. Pearl Street Pizzeria & Pub

pearl-street-pizzeria-pub

Website: http://www.pearlstreetpizzeria.com/

Address: 65 East Pearl Street

Contact: (317) 638-3110

Schedule: Monday-Friday: 11:00am-3:00am; Saturday & Sunday: 12:00pm-3:00am

Tucked into a quiet back alley downtown, Pearl Street Pizzeria and Pub feels like a small hidden spot rather than a typical restaurant. The kitchen focuses on handmade, artisan-style food made with fresh, local ingredients.

Beer drinkers will probably appreciate the wide selection of local craft brews on tap. The bar and kitchen also stay open until 3 AM every day, which makes it a solid option after late downtown events or games.

We stopped in after a game, and the service felt personal in a way that made it easy to settle in right away.

That late-night availability is a big draw, but the location can be tricky. The building is narrow and easy to miss if you’re not familiar with the area.

There’s also no private parking, so most guests end up using nearby street meters.

Pros

  • High-quality artisan dough
  • Extremely convenient downtown spot
  • Reliable late-night food menu
  • Eco-friendly sustainable packaging

Cons

  • Very limited seating capacity
  • Expensive downtown public parking

Customer Reviews

I’ve only ever had good experiences here! I have a lot of dietary restrictions, and when I was in the other night the bartender helped me figure out what I could eat and even double checked ingredients for me. I had the cauliflower crust pizza with black olives, green peppers, and goat cheese, and it was fantastic!! The vibes were good, too, and everyone I spoke with was very kind and friendly.

I went in to get a pizza, changed my mind and had the Pearl Street salad instead. So glad I did! Never had a salad that tastes so good. Super friendly staff too. Highly recommended!

4. Giordano’s

giordano-s

Website: https://giordanos.com/locations/downtown-indianapolis

Address: 43 N Illinois St

Contact: (317) 288-3415

Schedule: Monday – Thursday 11:00 am-10:00 pm; Friday – Saturday 11:00 am-11:00 pm; Sunday 11:00 am-9:00 pm

Cutting into a Giordano’s deep-dish pie reveals a thick layer of melted Wisconsin mozzarella that really embodies the style. They’re known for their stuffed deep-dish approach, with a double crust and a layered filling inspired by traditional Italian recipes.

Each pie is carefully prepared by a small team of trained pizza makers to ensure consistency.

You can order their food at downtown locations or even get frozen versions shipped nationwide, making it easy to enjoy at home.

When we dropped by to try their pizzas, we found the sauce was rich and slightly tangy. It helped balance out the heavy cheese and thick crust.

Every bite is dense and filling, with a mix of crunch from the crust and a soft, cheesy center.

Because of the size and ingredients, prices tend to be higher than standard pizza spots. Visiting a downtown location can also take a bit of planning, since parking is mostly limited to paid garages and the street layout can be confusing for first-time visitors.

Pros

  • Authentic Chicago stuffed style
  • Strategic downtown business location
  • High-tier exclusive cheese blend
  • Nationwide frozen shipping options

Cons

  • Expensive premium price point
  • Lack of direct free parking

Customer Reviews

I love this place. The food and service was excellent. The appetizer was great and received fast. There is a long wait on deep dish pizza but totally worth it! It’s very filling with 2 pieces. The walls could use a fresh paint.

Wonderful service from the start.  We were brought inside early from waiting in the cold until they opened.  Our server Neph was enthusiastic and attentive to all of our needs.  The pizza exceeded our expectations.  It was the perfect choice for lunch before the Colts game!!!

5. Goodfellas Pizzeria – Mass Ave

goodfellas-pizzeria-mass-ave

Website: https://www.goodfellaspizzeria.com/mass-ave

Address: 545 Massachusetts Ave

Contact: (317) 602-3401

Schedule: Monday to Friday 11:00 am – 12:00 am; Saturday to Sunday 12:00 am – 3:00 am, 11:00 am – 12:00 am

Craving a big, foldable New York-style slice usually brings a crowd to Goodfellas Pizzeria. They serve large 18-inch pies, and the slices are built for that classic fold-and-go style.

Inside the same historic building, there’s also a 1920s-style speakeasy. The place works both as a casual pizza stop and a more relaxed bourbon bar, depending on the time of day.

The menu leans into an Italian-American theme, with familiar items and a few extras like black and white cookies. It’s a solid spot if you just want something simple and filling under bright neon lights.

Since it’s located along busy Mass Ave, parking can be a challenge, especially if you’re trying to find street spots during peak hours.

It also gets very busy at night and on weekends, so expect longer lines and wait times when the bar crowd shows up.

Pros

  • Authentic oversized NY slices
  • Unique integrated speakeasy bar
  • Prime late-night service hours
  • Fun cinematic thematic branding

Cons

  • Major peak-hour wait times
  • Difficult and expensive street parking
