1. Sakura

Address: 7201 N Keystone Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46240
Contact: (317) 259-4171 | [email protected]
Hours: Tue – Thu 11:30 am – 02:00 pm, 05:00 pm – 09:00 pm; Fri – Sat 11:30 am – 02:30 pm, 05:00 pm – 09:30 pm; Sun – Mon 05:00 pm – 09:00 pm
Sakura has been a trusted fixture since 1987, and that long history shows in its steady reputation. The restaurant is well-loved in the city for its focus on authentic Japanese hospitality, or Omotenashi, in every detail of service.
Its menu goes beyond standard sushi offerings with house-made favorites like ginger dressing and wasabi-infused pork shumai. We once tried their Boston roll on a rainy Tuesday, and the fish’s freshness really stood out.
The dining room reinforces the experience with its calm, wood-accented design that feels both traditional and welcoming.
The kitchen supports multiple service styles, including express orders and catering, with generally smooth coordination.
Peak hours can still get crowded, though, and waits may reach about 45 minutes. Some cooked appetizers may also arrive less hot when the kitchen is heavily backed up.
Service was great, and the price was perfect
The sushi is wonderful the service was great, and the price was perfect. 20 year anniversary, wife wasn’t fond of the udon ( a little fishy tasting) but just hanging with me was enough to get her through lol.

Great atmosphere and consistently delivers quality food
This Japanese restaurant has a great atmosphere and consistently delivers quality food. It’s especially recommended for sushi lovers – the fish is fresh, well-prepared, and nicely presented. Among the local options, it’s hands down the best place around Broad Ripple for sushi and Japanese cuisine. The service is attentive, and the overall vibe is relaxed, making it a solid choice whether you’re dining with friends or enjoying a quiet meal. A reliable favorite for anyone craving authentic Japanese flavors!

2. Hasuno

Address: 435 Virginia Avenue Indianapolis IN, 46203
Contact: (317) 600-3020 | [email protected]
Hours: Mon-Thurs 11:00 am – 2:30 pm, 4:30 pm – 9:00 pm; Fri 11:00 am – 2:30 pm, 4:30 pm – 10:00 pm; Sat 4:00 pm – 10:00 pm; Sun 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm
A dinner with a bit of drama and flair is exactly what you get at Hasuno, a neighborhood spot known for turning sushi into a visual experience.
The Bonfire Roll is a signature example, arriving at the table flambéed for a striking presentation that matches its bold flavor.
The kitchen leans into a fish-forward style, using less rice so the freshness of the seafood comes through more clearly.
The menu also includes premium choices like Kobe beef nigiri and inventive soy-paper-wrapped rolls, offering a mix of indulgence and creativity. Gluten-free diners are well supported too, with dedicated soy sauce alternatives available.
Inside, the modern space feels sleek but compact, fitting the lively Fletcher Place setting.
Parking can be difficult in the area, and seating is limited. We strongly recommend making reservations since wait times can get long during busy hours.
Delicious food and top-notch service
Food: delicious! I love sushi, though! It didn’t take long either.
Service: top-notch. I never ran out of my drink. They were all polite and friendly. I never felt rushed or like I was a burden.
Atmosphere: romantic. At the bar, there were a few tables that had more of a business vibe.
I can’t wait to return!

Diners who value ocean conservation will appreciate the philosophy at Blue Sushi Sake Grill. The restaurant stands out for its “Conscious Earth” program, which focuses on responsibly sourced seafood designed to reduce environmental impact.
It also offers a strong lineup of creative plant-based rolls, making it especially appealing for vegetarian guests.
The atmosphere is energetic and social, pairing well with its curated selection of premium cold sake.
We visited during their well-known Sunday all-day happy hour, and the accessible pricing made the shared dining experience feel lively and worthwhile.
They also provide thoughtfully organized catering platters for larger groups with mixed dietary needs, which we really appreciated.
That said, regular menu prices trend higher and can feel closer to an upscale Italian restaurant.
The environment is also quite loud from the music. Wait times can stretch beyond 45 minutes, even in mid-afternoon, especially during busy periods.
Met the girlies for happy hour! The atmosphere is beautiful! The service was amazing and the food and drinks were delicious! We all picked a sushi roll. I chose the miso soup and Crunchy L.A. which was so yummy! I also ordered a carafe of th lemongrass sake which was delicious and creamy! Great value! Happy Hour was surely a hit! I highly recommend

4. FortyFive Degrees

Website: http://www.fortyfiveindy.com/
Address: 765 Massachusetts Avenue Indianapolis, IN 46204
Contact: (317) 634-4545
Hours: Monday to Thursday 11 am – 11 pm; Friday 11 am – 12 am; Saturday 12 pm – 12 am; Sunday 3 pm – 10 pm
Anchoring a busy downtown corner, FortyFive Degrees fits right into the energetic rhythm of the Massachusetts Avenue district. The venue is known for its distinctive architecture, especially its signature patio that wraps around the street intersection.
Since 2008, it has also supported local non-profits while contributing to the area’s modern dining evolution.
The menu leans into an eclectic fusion style, ranging from delicate sashimi to savory chef-driven skewers. A personal favorite is the Playboy Roll, which is dramatically lit on fire at the table before being served.
Weekly promotions and clearly marked dietary labels also make ordering more straightforward for different preferences.
The atmosphere is loud and energetic, which suits the social crowd but can make quiet conversations difficult.
Recent inspection notes from April 2026 also flagged a few issues with food storage temperatures and minor hygiene lapses, which some cautious diners may want to consider.
Food was delicious and fresh
Came for lunch the day after Christmas. Food was delicious and fresh! I’m impressed that their Japanese food is so good but they still offer burgers and other bar food favorites. My husband is a picky sushi guy and he approved too.
Our waitress was so friendly and helpful. Twas a great lunch all around

Service is always good and the bathrooms are exceptionally clean
Everything I’ve ever ordered off the menu here has been nothing short of amazing. The food is always yummy and fresh. We’re from Florida so we were a little hesitant to try sushi in the Midwest. This is the only place I’ll eat Sushi. It’s wonderful. The service is always good and the bathrooms are exceptionally clean. My family loves going here. We drive all the way from Muncie to come here for sushi.

5. Sushi Bar

Website: http://www.sushibarindy.net/
Address: 911 Broad Ripple Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46220
Contact: 317-257-7289
Hours: Monday to Wednesday 11:30 am – 10:30 pm; Thursday to Saturday 11:30 am – 11:30 pm; Sunday 12:00 am – 10:30 pm
Tucked into the busy Broad Ripple neighborhood, Sushi Bar has built a strong local reputation since 2012. It works well as a dual-purpose spot, serving both sashimi lovers and diners who prefer cooked Japanese dishes.
The kitchen leans into artisanal preparation, including house-made elements like their signature sweet teriyaki sauce.
Portions are notably generous, which makes it easy to leave fully satisfied. Flavors stay consistent and well-balanced too, from specialty rolls to simple bento boxes.
The space itself feels intimate, shifting from a quiet daytime retreat to a livelier evening hangout as the night goes on.
That said, the space has its limits. The footprint is fairly tight, and the lobby area can feel intrusive when it gets busy. You may also notice the loud ventilation system, which can make table conversations a bit harder during peak hours.
Sashimi deluxe and three rolls were all very fresh and delicious
Visiting family in Indy and had dinner at Sushi Bar for the first time, it was incredible! We ordered the sashimi deluxe and three rolls (Tiger, dynamite & jalapeño), they were all very fresh and delicious. Cozy and welcoming greetings from Anna the owner, we love seeing all the lovely pictures on the wall of all the smiley customers who visited the restaurants before, will def return again next time I’m in town. Highly recommend!
