Walking into this cozy spot instantly wraps you in the aroma of sizzling spices and savory sauces. Black Leaf Vegan Cafe serves a fully plant-based menu packed with hearty soul food that never feels like a compromise.

We recently ordered the loaded nachos, and the rich vegan cheese over crispy chips really hit the spot. 

Their bacon ranch burger, baked fries, and fruit smoothies also make it easy to build a meal that feels filling without being too heavy.

We also appreciate that they skip heavy oils in some of their sides, which gives the menu a slightly lighter feel than the usual comfort-food lineup. 

The main drawback is the schedule. They close at 6:00 PM, so late dinner cravings are pretty much off the table.

Good enough to turn me fully vegetarian

Fantastic food! As an occasional meat eater, I find very few vegan patties are as satisfying as beef, but these genuinely might be good enough to turn me fully vegetarian. The jackfruit is also delicious, and the staff was very welcoming. Highly recommend!

The nachos were super loaded!

The food here is amazing! All vegan and extremely delicious. This is our first time here. We got a brunch burger and the nachos, with a mango lemonade and the verde smoothie. And the chocolate cake. The nachos were super loaded! Didn’t expect that! Everything was incredible, I highly recommend this place. Not to mention the staff is so friendly and awesome. 10/10!! Didn’t get pictures of the food because we smashed it!

This was JUST the fix I needed

Came all the way from Chicago to see Sinners on IMAX and I found this GEM! I’m on a 21 day raw vegan fast and this was JUST the fix I needed. Food was fresh and service was divine. I got the raw vegan taco and taco salad. Very filling 😋 whenever I’m in town I will definitely eat here. Wasn’t expecting it to be black owned, so that was a great surprise. It’s not often we see our ppl interested in vegan options so I loved that!

Crispy and delicious with generous portion size

We didn’t realize it is a food truck, but today is a nice day and there are picnic tables. The food is delicious and fresh. I had the vegan chicken wings and fries. Crispy and delicious with generous portion size. Oatmeal Cream Pie is a perfect dessert and huge.

The comfortable seating and polished space invite you to stay awhile, especially at lunch. 

The kitchen is also good about adjusting dishes for dairy-free or gluten-free diets, which makes the menu easier to work with for mixed groups.

The tradeoff is price. Once you start adding premium plant proteins or extra vegetable sides, a simple bowl can get expensive faster than you expect.

Lovely decor elevates the amazing food choices. They have an expansive menu that includes many gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan options. The flavor combinations, colors and freshness make every morsel simply delectable. We really enjoyed the green chili queso, glow bowl, red chile glazed sweet potato, kung pow cauliflower and the black bean falafel. They even have GF dessert- the lemon olive oil cake is a must try!

Lots of gluten free and vegan options

This place was great. Lots of gluten free and vegan options. Everyone in our party was pleased with their meal.

You order at the counter and they deliver to your table. They had alcohol drink options as well as kombucha lemonades and other drinks. It was fresh and healthy.

We love the fresh pressed juices

Each time we go, we both enjoy our food and amazing service. There are a few vegan options and more vegetarian options to choose from, with plenty for the omnis.

We love the fresh pressed juices — Cashew Concoction is our fave! Husbo and I enjoyed a flight of juices together but we have yet to try the house drinks.

Huge windows, tons of plants and beautiful exposed brick are visible from every seat.

The food was extremely fresh!

This was one of the highlights of my time in Indianapolis. The food was extremely fresh! I got the avocado toast and it was absolutely delicious. They have an assortment of cool mixed drinks and its a great spot for vegetarian/vegan options. I would definitely come back. Lots of parking available in the front.

Authentic vegetarian Indian food

The food was delicious and the staff was extremely sweet! We ordered dabang dosa, the plain idli, and masala chai. They gave us complimentary soup too which was a pleasant surprise. Highly recommend if you want authentic vegetarian Indian food.

A similarly spectacular experience

I was recommended the Bhaji Pav here by an Indian coworker.  When I ordered I emphasized “mild”, and while some heat remained, it was delicious and the staff was very kind and checked with me to make sure I liked the food.

That was a month or two ago, and now it is lent and I am a vegetarian for 40 days.  So I went back and had a similarly spectacular experience.  Got the Bhaji Pav and then ordered Dal Tadka and rice to go.  This came out to $32 and is honestly some pretty baller vegetarian food.
